Yaya Toure signs one year extension.

Makes far more sense extending Yaya's contract than Navas. Yaya offers us that control in big games, and even if he plays a bit part role, he brings a winning mentality and that drive in CM.

Here's an explanation for you then:

When Yaya comes on or in he can play well, when Navas comes on or in he does shit.

Navas can play two positions. I'm not a fan, but he can. If a right sided winger or FB got hurt he can fill in for either. He's not starting. His job is safer because he can be useful as a squad player.

Yaya has little ability to press or play with tempo and he's a statue in MF now. He's had one third of one good season over the last two years, and has no versatility. He's at the exact age when players begin a more precipitous decline. I have loved him -- he could take over games and carry the side -- but he's not that player anymore.

I think the overhaul that's needed is so big we can't afford to do it in One window, that's the reason for these 1 year contract's being offered.

Of course. No question. At FB we know we need a number so that why at least I understand keeping Navas. But for a MF role the way Pep wants it played do we need more than one assuming Gundogan is fit? Maybe extending Yaya is protection in case IG is hurt again (I know they aren't exactly the same kind of player).

Very stupid of you to bring the whole cake thing up, that's something I would expect from a rag. We all know the media were behind the cake saga. I understand you were trying to be funny but yaya has attained legend status here and played a very important rule in the 2011/2012 and 2013/2014 title run in. Show some respect.

You need to lighten up and stop being touchy

Hopefully they will now sell Fernandinho who had turned to shit this season.

Can't keep both surely.

So we are happy with Yaya who had been dreadful the last two years (not too bad this season) but we want to bin Fernandinho who has had his first poor year? Probably only fucked this year due to carrying Yaya the last two

Fernandinho hasn't been shit all year anyway. He was decent earlier in the season.
He's done that to an extent all 4 seasons he's been here - started off in flying form and then gotten progressively worse as the season went on. Bit of a worrying trend as the prizes are decided at the latter end. The other worrying thing for me is that if I was ranking his seasons from best to worst 13/14 would be highest and this season lowest. Reckon he'll be a squad player at most next season if he's still here.

That's just not true though is it. What control and drive does he offer? He's a lovely passer of the ball but that's it these days, if anything he negatively effects the team because we can no longer press as quickly or with the same intensity.

I know the teams ability has faded as the season as gone on in that respect anyway but that's due to players being burnt out I think, especially Aguero, De Bruyne, Silva and Fernandinho and lately Sane as well.

you do not go to the last games of the season before putting a contract on the table, hopefully none of the out of contract players will be here next season , if they are it shows failure in planing and transfers

Toure forces the team to play back and sideways because he won't push on ahead of the ball and he can't get back quickly enough. So he doesn't give us an extra body to pass forward to and he still needs cover. That's two players short when he has the ball and when he doesn't. Centre half for Yaya unless he can play in nets.

I have no problems with offering Yaya an extension, as long as the wage is reasonable as he still has something to offer during our transitional period. Although its easy to see the bad side of his tenure here he has also been a true legend, sure the media have stirred the shit and we have been given stick from other fans over cakegate etc, all that is born out of jeliousy, but we missed him vs boro and he almost won us the semi v Arsenal but for hitting the post. He made us a force with winning the semi v rags and fa cup, his goal contribution in the 13/14 season, wembley goal v Sunderland etc etc. Only he could have scored some of the goals he came up with, that one away at palace where he did 2 one /twos from his own half ,beat off all challenges in a powerful run to their penalty area and still coolly found the top corner. If he played for the rags he would be touted as the best midfielder in the premier era and his best goals replayed daily on various media outlets no doubt. Having said all that, if he wont accept our terms then let him go and good luck to him, hes brought more pleasure than pain tho and deserves our respect despite that agent of his.

That's because we are over working him. No decent cover, No one supporting him when he's vulnerable. in Chelsea, Kante has Matic to cover for him and vice versa, then there's Moses and Alonso who come in deep in the midfield to provide extra cover for Kante. Here we have Dinho playing alongside an ageing Yaya, light weight KDB and Silva.

I'd certainly keep Fernandinho but use him more sparingly (same with Toure). He is also into his 30s and possibly declining to some degree. Bring in a new DM to play behind Gundogan and Silva. I'm sure there would still be plenty of game time for all.

Or it could be he just doesn't have the engine for the role? He closed out last season in a 2 with Fernando and it didn't help.
