We delayed the appointment of Guardiola and the result was in his first season he had to start rebuilding and we'll spend the Summer completing that.

The value is not judging him on his first 12 months and to take into account his previous record in management. To take into account how many footballers at the very top of the tree compliment him regularly. To take into account the size of the job he had on his hands and the changes needed to be implemented before we can become the team he wants us to be.
Have expectations been met? Tough one really, I'm sure he himself will be a little disappointed that we've finished the season empty handed but I personally wouldn't say the season has been a complete failure. Plenty to work on but I've seen enough to remain confident he'll be a success with us before he leaves.

Take a look at his goals scored, and assists. He has one gear: jogging. I accept he has been our single-most influential player, but he's way gone. You are seduced by very accurate sideways passing.
Happy if the club decide to give him another year Marvin but he won't be a regular starter and will have to play a smaller role in the side.
Not sure who was behind the decision to give Jesus the penalty especially given YaYa's record and the importance of hat kick but it might say something about the future and his role at the club.
Hopefully he can do some mentoring as he prepares for life after on field action.

In short, he has inherited a team that needs rebuilding and that can't be done in one season.
Plenty to work on but I've seen enough to remain confident he'll be a success with us before he leaves.

I could explain my reply to you but on reflection, it's probably a waste of my time.
You must be proper fuming having posted for only the third time in 10 years. Proper, proper fuming.seems to me as i've said elsewhere peps getting an easy ride off most of our fans just because hes Pep Guardiola! Imagine any other manager saying this crap about our club there would be uproar, but people are accepting it because his reputation is going before him.
I'm fuming with him this season for doing so shite and i expected so much more esp seen as Pellegrini finished exactly the same position we could end up finishing, won us the league cup and got us to our best ever finish in the champions league with near enough the exact same squad!
Imo hes got till this time next season to prove us all wrong. No player or manager is bigger than the club. but it looks to me Pep thinks he is!

In the context of just this season, it hasn't been a successful one. I never thought it would be though, as I thought Guardiola would need a bit longer to both implement his style and get the squad transitioned as it is ageing in certain key areas.
Longer term though, we've now got some players in that will be there for a while and will bring players in in the summer to address what is currently a squad with brilliant players but overall a bit of an imbalance compared to Chelsea or Spurs.
Even so, it's been fine margins at times. A referees call here or an injury there and we could have been looking at a very successful season. There does seem to be a modern thing too of always blaming the manager. Ultimately, players win titles and Spurs and Chelsea have both had more consistent performers than we have this season. I do think Chelsea in particular have their own transition coming soon though.
These comments though, really do read to me to be praising of us and critical of himself. No top manager wants to admit defeat or failure - their egos don't allow it for a start. There is a determination there that he will get it right next year.
Personally I'd much rather enjoy the experience of watching whether he can do it or not, and for us (both as fans and as a club) to not adopt
the mentality of the "big" clubs. The moment we do turn into that, then I'd argue we really have lost our identity.

Lot of fuss about not much in many ways. Certainly nothing wrong with his comment about Bayern and Barca. But his further comment about "a big club" could have been phrased better, it doesn't particularly bother me but stuff like that is always going to piss some fans off and is going to give the media something else negative to jump on. Whilst some people are probably blowing it out of proportion, ultimately it was just an unnecessary thing for him to say and wasn't helpful. English is not his first language though which also should be taken into account.

Why should I accept somebody's opinion if I disagree with it? It's nothing to do with self importance or thinking I'm a better member, in fact I'm pretty low down in the grand scheme of things when it comes to quality posters. I just hate what sections of our fanbase have become and this thread captures why I feel this way perfectly.
