Explosion at MEN Arena/Victoria Station

You tell me ask our chief, oh wait you can't he's gone on holiday and they've recalled his deputy from his holiday, Andy Burnham has called for an inquiry the lads are fuming.

I bet they are. Goes against everything the fire lads stand for. I am guessing you are all first aid trained as well so could have helped with the victims?

Yes mate the paramedics were pleading for us to go and our bosses refused it's an absolute disgrace I hope heads roll

Presumably because they feared another explosion? Health and safety laws? I assume if you overruled a boss you loose your job?

I for one told everyone who cared to listen about how you were held back and I'm sure most people know about it by now. The leadership was a disgrace we all knew you were wanting to help mate.

I can understand that in the first few minutes but once it became clear within the first 10 mins then we should have been deployed we had a station 1/4 mile from the job they moved those pumps to Philips park!!! There were 5 pumps there it is also an ambulance station and the paramedics were comin back to restock and screaming at the crews to help them, if they had self deployed god knows what would happen however now it's set a precedent and crews are openly saying in the future they will there is absolutely no confidence in management what so ever.

i feel terrible for you bud, i read about this being held back stuff. Why did bosses not have the bullet proof stuff in town and instead Leigh. I can imagine a few of you want to ask questions like this. Were any of you close to mutiny and going to help anyway? Sorry for the questions Mav, the news of this really angered me you see. Please though know i like you are pissed at those in charge, not you chaps :-)

I do hope people get sacked for this as it is unforgivable imo. What level of boss should have all this stuff sorted, station chief or above?

Feel free to ignore my q's mate i bet a few have asked the same :-)

The bullet proof stuff I can't talk about for obvious reasons, however that is been used as a smoke screen imho, police and paramedics were already in, their bosses asked them to volunteer and to a man they did, they could have done the same for us. Like I said the possibility of another bomb is an issue however we are willing to take that risk that is what we are paid for, how close to a mutiny I don't know my mate who was at Philips park was saying they were screaming at bosses to let them go, we thought our station would get the call but didn't and now we know why. It really has caused problems in work and it needs sorting out pronto, there is justifiably a lot of anger and there can be no excuses absolutely non, if they hide behind policies then they can fuck off.

I was thinking how integral the emergency services were during 9/11. A lot of the stories after the event were told from their perspective and a hell of a lot of information came as a first hand account of their experiences on that day in the direct aftermath. A shambles to not let them do the jobs they love.

This is really terrible. Regular folk off the street tending to the injured, whilst dozens of trained first aiders parked up a few miles away being held back because of red tape nonsense. More people may have been saved.
It's an absolute scandal.

How many would've had died had those firefighters etc not gone into the twin towers? Thousands more, I know 343 died which is terrible however ask those people to do it again and they would, would we have helped save more we will never know, but at least we could've tried.

Cheers mate lets hope so one if your questions I didn't answer is that the chief himself was in charge he was stood with the chief of police and ambulance commander and they sent their people in keys hope he tells us why we didn't but he has not been seen since Monday has not released a statement to us or the press, the silence is deafening.

My friend's wife is a doctor and a colleague was at the event. He just wanted to help and the police said he can go in but they can't guarentee his safety and the scene is horrendous.

He's used to operating on people and seeing stuff that would make an ordinary citizen pass out, but even he's been off work for a week and has been very badly affected.

What bravery though to go in when his safety wasn't guaranteed. There's a lot of special people out there and the amount people have been willing to do just shows these bastards won't divide us.
