So just to be certain, people here are happy to not spend a fortune on a CB which clearly has been our weakness but they are more than happy to buy Sanchez, a position we are well stocked in. Classic.
For me, it's more about giving one of the CBs that we've spent an absolute fortune on a chance. The two things that have characterised the last couple of seasons have been a complete lack of a consistent CB pairing, and constantly rotating, aging fullbacks. Add to that last season a catastrophic goalkeeping performance for at least half of our games and almost every mistake was punished with a goal. While I wouldn't complain if we brought Van Dijk in, it wouldn't surprise me if a couple of very good full backs who play every game transform the whole defensive unit. I'm not ready to write off a £50m 22 year-old, and I think it's extremely important that we get it right with John Stones, because we need an English core to the team. But I also agree that Sanchez is unnecessary (but also wouldn't complain if it happened). So just to be certain, people here are happy to not spend a fortune on a CB which clearly has been our weakness but they are more than happy to buy Sanchez, a position we are well stocked in. We should be in for at least one and moving Kolo on. Sadly it's a certainty that Vinnie will pick up injuries. So do you guys think we not after a CB at all? I think we still short in this positions because I cant see Kompany stay fit for the all season and Kolarov is not good enough
So basically your in the instant fix camp and don't have any interest in allowing these young lads time to learn and develop (this isn't meant to sound as offensive as it probably does, so apologies if you take it as such). As for Savic, hes spent the last couple of years at a club prepared to integrate him and made a starting berth practically his own. I agree he didnt look all that when with us but did we give him enough time. From my pov its more of a what if question, ie what if we had kept him and allowed him time to adjust and develop (him and Nasty), my view is that if hes good enough for perennial la liga challengers and cl semi final/finalists then he probably would have made it here and we wouldnt have a thread debating the potential destination of a player whose had two (albeit good) seasons in the pl for a transfer fee in excess of 40 or 50m.Thanks but no thanks. It took me 2 years to get over Savic's performances at Klanfield and the Liberty Stadium.......(shudders)!

suppose I can't disagree with that, I guess then we should start coming round to the idea that unless we unearth the Beswick Bergkamp, Moss side Messi or Collyhurst Cruyff whom are instantly brilliant the only purpose our much vaunted academy will serve is on the balance sheet marked under player salesI think now the PL has changed that much that time is no longer a luxury clubs (top clubs) can afford to take. There are so many financial incentives that having a model of needing to succeed almost immediately is defacto, particularly if the manager wants to keep his job - sad but IMO, true.
Maybe - Maybe Not. I think Pep might tinker once he has a winning team (by that I mean won the league). I think it took him the whole of last season to come to terms with it and now he knows what he is dealing with. Next season, I see us bringing in top players to win us the league (hopefully) and progress well in the CL. After that, I could see the scenario whereby the top youth prospects getting opportunitysuppose I can't disagree with that, I guess then we should start coming round to the idea that unless we unearth the Beswick Bergkamp, Moss side Messi or Collyhurst Cruyff whom are instantly brilliant the only purpose our much vaunted academy will serve is on the balance sheet marked under player sales
You must’ve not noticed that VVD is actually Varesi Valdini Donucci.F**king hell, VVD has suddenly become a mix between a Baresi, Maldini and Bonucci if you read some of the comments on this forum.
Surprised that Real, Barca and Bayern haven't been fighting over him if he's that good!!

He certainly is good - but he is no Colin Hendry.....
