Yep, those poor people living in a death trap and well aware of it, it's a tragedy that should never have been allowed to happen.Disgraceful it wasn't sorted out.
If i lived high up i'd be tempted to train as a base jumper and i'd keep the back pack near the balcony. I wonder what is the minimum height for a base jump?

JUST seen the video from inside with the police telling people to get out however the people filming are on the top floor and the corridor is full of smoke. To get down through that I'm afraid a lot will succumb to the smoke, as fir the number of casualties it will take a long time lots of those bodies will be dust in that heat and intensity, even getting to ones to identify will be hard due to how unsafe the floors will be.

There is a political discussion to be had just not yet that will come after the coroners inquest, for now thoughts to all involved and fot hose not involved it is another shocking awaking of our mortality. Just feels one tragedy after another at the moment.

If it's true, that baby from 9 stories up would be travelling at over 50 mph.
I'm 8 stories at work and looked down today after hearing this today, absolutely no way it happened in my opinion, not at that height.

I mentioned it earlier, I'm not sure about the validity of the story as it was on BBC but if you had no option?? Who knows how we'd react. Looking at that video inside on the 23rd floor I think I'd have tried making a run for it. Not sure I could just sit waiting for almost certain death, got to be a horrific way to go.
Thoughts go out to all involved.

just like the twin towers all those jumpers would have had there skin blistering with the heat so the imediate respose is to jump all be it to iminent death, its not much of a choice really, from 10 floors you may have a slight chance but from 100 there wouldnt be a recognisable part of your body remaining

It's not whether a desperate parent would try anything, I just don't think anyone would catch it from that height. It's ridiculously high.

As you wouldn't in a fire like that. No good options in these situations. A lot of the residents will have been elderly though and unable to get out and would probably listen to instructions to sit tight. Horrific

I have an idea, maybe not great but an idea non the less...
Every high rise should have an emergency cushioning system, like bouncy castles. They used to be if films a lot when a copper was talking someone down from jumping and stuff. Not only those, but a manual bit of scaffolding that has a rough ring shape when assembled. This would be used as a raised platform for people to stand around with a custom made piece of fabric. It would have many handles so people could stand in a circle and try to catch jumpers.
There is a chance this apparatus could have saved some lives imo.
Maybe universal clamping systems with accordingly long lengths of rope attached on all levels to.
