Whether he intended to sign, was hoping for another offer, we do not know. All we could do was wait if he has given us his word.

I have no doubt this is not unique in the world of transfers. Some work out somedont. Case in point being Fabian Delph how things can change so quickly.

People keep saying we messed up and were at fault but no one will state exactly what we could have done differently.

The guy is a top class player, available on a free. He held all the cards and we had to take him as his word.

We have probably contacted other players this summer indirectly who have given us the nod there interested. The negotiations with the club could take weeks/mths and those players could change their mind. Thats why transfers are a precarious business.

To be frank I've never really followed his off the feiid issues so I really don't know. Shame if we cannot go for him. I'd rather have him than Walker if I'm being honest. I think the dude will do very well in the EPL.

I'll be honest missing out on Alves really hasn't left me deflated like other ones we have lost out on, and I feel similar about the possibility of sanchez not coming.


You cannot blame the club for his choice to go to PSG, seems he has been given an offer I am glad we wouldn't give if the case.

We do need to step it up fullback wise though and sort out the signings.

Silva and Ederson were rare and not the norm mate.....The way we do business is very predictable, most of the time it works but on this occasion it didnt....Childish would be to present my opinion in a silly, immature way. Disappointed we have not signed Alves, but as long as we get Walker, Mendy and a CB we will be ok. Full backs are integral to a successful Pep team and it is imperative imo we get them in asap.

I would pay £50m for Walker get him in asap, Levy won't lower the price. He was the best rb in the Premier League last year, I know he is not worth the money but the market is very inflated this year. Same goes with Mendy pay the price and get the deal done.

No. However a certain ITK who claimed we had forced one of our current players to change number so Alves could be number 5 is clearly a bullshitter

Im more than critical of the clubs transfer policy but what exactly have they done wrong?

Explain what they could have done differently?

Not slagging the club off mate, just have an ongoing frustration with the way we sometimes do business. I could name 4 or 5 big signings so far this summer that didnt take 4-5months of tapping up a player, getting an agreement with said player and then wait a few weeks/months before official bid goes in.

There was many links to us wanting Alves, even before his release from Juve became official. So all this dragging him off honeymoon/ wedding day wasnt even in question. Most of the arguments on these threads were, we should let him have his holiday, there is no way he'd turn down Pep, this is in the bag and I believe the club approached this transfer in the same way..almost if they said to themselves, relax we got this! While PSG was ringing him the weekend of his wedding(if you believe some in the press) working on an offer to beat ours....Links only started with PSG over the last week whenit came out that Aurier could be on the move. In this situation, there is just as much chance the club told him to go and enjoy his holidays as there is to him refusing to sign a contract before he went away. So at the end of the day, anyone that has an opinion that the club messed up, has as much right as anyone that thinks we did nothing wrong!

So lets sign Mendy and Walker and move on!;)
