I feel like the primary reason for this is that he's very good when defending deep as he can just rely on his physical attributes, but when he plays in a high line his awful positioning and judgement is exposed. From what I saw of him at Valencia this was still true, he was fantastic against Real Madrid when Valencia were forced into their own box and were bombarded with crosses, but then against some nobody team that launched a long ball into the box he completely missed his header and they concede as a result.

This would often happen at City too, great against Chelsea and PSG where he didn't have to deal with runs in behind, but awful against minnows where we'd play a high line. I like Mangala just fine and I think he can still succeed somewhere else, but imo it's never going to happen under Pep, it's just a horrible mismatch.
 
We should screw PSG for every penny after what's happened with Alves or just tell them to go shove Thier pitiful offer where the sun doesn't shine.

a fair view but it is also accurate for all the CB`s we have been linked with, there is no reason to play the high back line if your midfield is good enough but that is what pep wants and i can see Mendy in a back 3

Mendy would be fine as the wingback, but shouldn't go anywhere near the back 3 until he improves his defensive game.

It might be happen in a few days.
Yesterday, we sold marcelo to lyon for 7 m euro+bonus (500k) and new target for cb is mangala.
Besiktas wants him to loan and the latest news is pointing out that the deal is so close.
Besiktas will be playing in cl this year and probably mangala will play in first team regularly if he comes.
These factors strengthen this transfer rumour.
In my opinion, pepe&mangala would be great for our cb position.
Lets sew what will happen in near future.
 
I have just posted in a different thread would it not be an idea to give him another go with a fitter vinnie and decent full backs. Allowing us to keep more in the Sanchez or mbappe kitty?

Without a doubt as far as I'm concerned. I always thought he was unfairly criticized but that's just me.

Very strong resemblance to lescott. However, as good as lescott was he would get nowhere near a guardiola team. Same rings true for mangala.
