Neymar

Is that actually true though, or is it just more bullshit trying to smear PSG because they're owned by those dodgy Arabs?

I'd assume it's pretty standard that the player himself doesn't literally pay the release clause and the money comes from the buying club.

Part of La Liga rule states that the player must pay the release clause. There was a load of nonsense when United bought Herrera and Bayern bought Martinez.

I saw plenty of reports stating that even if the club gives said player the money to buy himself out, it then becomes taxable income and the club ends up paying more than their release clause.

The assumption would be it came from PSG, so its a bit premature to say they have got one over FFP. We don't know what sales they will make to balance the books , but it will all show up in there accounts so they will either pass or fail FFP.
If on the other hand it has come from a third party then when the time comes I'm sure that would be looked into as well. Think all this end of FFP celebration may be a bit premature.

The way I just read it was he paid the release clause and was for a short time out of contract, would've been a big fuck you to psg had we swooped in and signed him on a free (payback for Dani Alves)

I think it's just a legal technicality. I'd imagine PSG will give the money to Neymar in the form of a signing bonus or something of that nature. I very much doubt in their next set of accounts they won't have the £200 million accounted for in some form.

Surely the time to go balls deep for Mbappé is now. Get the next footballing superstar on the books and stoke the flames of hipocritical moral outrage further and bang another nail on the coffin of the old elite. Come on Cheeky, Ferran, Kool Hand Kaldoon amd HRH, make it happen! Oh and grab Sanchez on your way back from the bank while you're at it :)

Dont think they r "pissed" money they get, but they lost the player to PSG. and feel that PSG have not folowes or repected the FFC rules, to make fair trade.

what i hate about this, is what will it be next year 80m for LB or RB, team can demand 160-180m for avrage striker!

I dont like what PSG did.[emoji35]

The Premier League expect the TV deal to go up nearly 40% globally from 18/19 so regardless of PSG, transfer fees were going to get even bigger anyway.

How would they know. The financial year this transfer applies to has only just started. Players can be sold, sponsorships can be earned on the back of this signing, champions league revenue can increase by tens of millions.

It's just sour grapes.

No-one is forced to pay more for any player than what they think he is worth.

I'm curious as to what team you support ?

Fair enough if its City, its just your opinion of the deal, but its not one shared by the majority, because seeing one of the cartel clubs getting screwed over is quite amusing to most of us.

Oh, and fortunately we shouldn't need any FB's next year.

The PL might be disappointed next time the domestic contract is up for renewal. BT seem to be struggling for viewers, and Sky have admitted their viewing figures are falling, a straw poll amongst football fans I know (mainly match goers to be fair), suggests at least, that people are drifting away from Sky, and not renewing their contracts, we were chatting at work last night, fans of three different clubs, and we were all watching considerably less games on TV.

If PSG gave Neymar the money to buy himself out, won't he have to pay tax on it - it's either a gift, or a salary or a bonus or whatever. In which case, won't they have had to give him £300m+ to pay the tax bill?

Jonathan Wilson was talking about this today on the Guardian pod.

He said that despite sky numbers going down, the Premier Leaugue expect a small increase on the domestic deal, basically staying the same, but the global deal to go up from £3Bn to over £5Bn.

Won't be the same without James Richardson. I think their new Podcast kicks off next week.

Fair enough, but domestically a lot of fans are turning Sky and BT off.

On a side note, one of the lads I was chatting with last night, a match going (but none season ticket holder) Spurs fan, was going to go to a friendly this weekend at Wembley, until he enquired about a ticket, and discovered its the same price as a league game, £50, for pre-season kick about, that's outrageous in anyone's book.

I agree. I've not bought it cos split across teo channels like that it's ridiculous. It's just not worth the price imo

As far as I'm aware, it's no longer classed as an income but as a capital gain.

When they pay the release clause it's classed as a capital loss now. Thus there's no tax to pay.
