Amazing that none of of the media have drawn this obvious parallel.
I'm sure those objective folk at Media City are working on it - not.
No one batted a fucking eyelid when the Rags paid £75m for Lukaku, who I'd say is around half the talent of Neymar, and probably around 5% of the marketability of him. Oh, fuck it, let's be honest, Lukaku will be £90m. So, I'd suggest it's Mourinho's fault that PSG had to pay £200m.
I said exactly the same thing to a rag on the way into work this morning.

When talking about a players worth (Mbappe v Neymar for example) a great deal is not being made of the marketing side of things. Neymar is a global superstar, you go anywhere in the world and there were as many Neymar branded shirts as there are Messi, he has no shortage of sponsors and endorsements, and he is the (hate this term but nevertheless) footballing poster boy of a football mad country, a country with a population of nearly 210 million people. PSG are not daft, they know that an element of their outlay can be offset by this. I cant see this being anything like the case with Mbappe, not yet anyway.Is it really sustainable?
The Tv bubble will burst one day and ticket prices won't make a ripple in this sort of spend.

I agree with all of that. He is everywhere
Also, they are talking about him in this mornings Wright Stuff - this goes some way to proving that PSG have got it right. More exposure
However, all this falls down if he turns out to be shit like Pogba. If PSG win the CL no one will mention the fee. If they get knocked out in the group stage and finish runners-up in the league, the transfer will be viewed as a disaster

As we know football fans are a fickle bunch, even some of our own, I'd say there's every chance. Neymar does still just have that 'presence' about him though, he's a party boy whereas (thankfully) our Gabby seems the consummate pro. However if Neymars form is just none existent or he gets injured or something and Brazil go on to win the cup on the back of Gabbys goals then there's no doubt in my mind who will be more revered and clubwise his increased exposure etc will make his fee look even more of the bargain it looks now.So if Gabriel Jesus has a better World Cup than him will he become the main man in Brazil?

in 09/10 Real Madrid came second in La Liga and went out in the last 16 and no one though Ronaldo was a waste of money.
His performances will dictate how it's viewed.

No, not a chance.
Neymar's been Brazilian footballs big thing since he was 16. He's been the icon for a home world cup, and been the player who carried them for a few years, plus the captain. When he was 20, he was on the front cover of time magazine called the next Pele, the biggest clubs in the world wanted him from the age of 14.
Gabriel Jesus was a complete unknown until a year ago, he would have to win the ballon d'or or carry Brazil to a world cup single handedly to get up to a similar level - and even then he wouldn't have the longevity of fame to compete with Neymar who's been a household name for nearly a decade.
