Why on earth would we pop in a bid on the 15th August, 3 days after our opening game, if there was no chance of this happening.

Still think this ship has long since sailed in regards to getting him this summer. From Arsenals perspective, they can't possibly let him go now after saying all season he's staying and not bringing in a replacement. They'd be riots and it would completely destabilise their season already. Wenger or the board, or possibly both would be under extreme pressure.

If they were going to sell him this season, they'd surely have done it early in the summer before they came out time and time again saying he's staying and whilst there's plenty of time for Arsenal to sign a replacement and probably most importantly plenty of time for Arsenal fans to simmer down.

I'd be delighted to be wrong but i find it very hard to believe
 
Despite this transfer would strenghten us (slightly) and weaken Arsenal (a lot), still not sure if it's the right move to make. Rather we'd spend a few bob more on young Mbappe who seems more fitting this (young) squad.

This is exactly how I see it.
 
I would prefer to Give this a miss if M'Bappe is in any way possible. Someone did a piece on the amount of football Sanchez has played over the last number of years, and also laid out the copious amount of football he is also scheduled to play in the coming years. He hasn't had a break in an eternity, and this is going to catch up with him sooner rather than later. We need a few speedsters in our team and can't really afford to have someone coming in that may lose a yard of pace in a year or two. It really has been noticeable how losing a yard has a affected Sergios's game, as he barely out paces any defenders these days. Just a thought. I certainly wouldn't complain if he arrived, but would be a bit concerned regarding the above.
 
We'd be mad to pay £60M for a player with one year on his contract. I think we're strong enough with a choice of Sergio, Jesus, Sterling, Sane, KDB, Silva x 2, Gundogan and Yaya to fill the front 5 or 6 places in the team. That's without taking into account Diaz, Foden and any other youngsters.

They did before. It's a game of poker and he tries to play his hand. He easily would find an explanation why he had to sell.

And if, manager have to and want to make decisions independent from what 'people' say.

The Rag mentioned before is probably looking at his stats. Sanchez hasn't run over 10k in a game all season I don't think. He is the complete opposite to Ozil, who doesn't look busy but actually runs a lot, whereas Sanchez looks extremely busy but doesn't actually run as much.

He is a great player but he's not without his faults. He takes on a lot of shots to get his goals, he gets dispossessed a lot, and he often runs into blind alleys and dribbles with the ball when a simple pass would have done.

But he is capable of the spectacular, either by a goal or an assist, our play is built round him so his faults are forgotten when he produces, which he does so on lots of occasions.

If he does move, it will be interesting to see if he has to adapt his game any, or Pep or the team adapt for him. Will also be interesting to see how Arsenal get on as well having been reliant on him.

If 'slightly' was Pep's view as well he wouldn't be willing to pay loads of money. And shouldn't.

'A few bob' = some 80m? ;-)

Also Sanchez and Mbappe are 2 completely different stories. I don't think there is a choice between those 2.
We should find reasons why Sanchez or Mbappe would now be the perfect fit for Pep.

Disgree. I think it's naive to expect Sterling, Sane, and Silva, three guys who've probably played no more than a handful of games as a striker to step in and score goals if we lose both Kun/Jesus. Also the goal record of those guys isn't anywhere near strong enough to assume that they will be able to step in and fill a serious goal scoring breach.

Seems odd to me to see so many people arguing we don't need Sanchez. I think that's nonsense. I'd go so far as to say right now was are desperate for another top line forward otherwise 1 injury would totally fuck our season. Unless there's a genuine belief that three of Sterling/Sane/Jesus/Kun can play week in and week out without getting burnt out and without losing form.

I'm almost with you, don't think I'm quite as desperate for Sanchez, but I do want him, however -

Is misleading. We could play 352 and then play 2 rest 1. We could play 433 and have Bernardo Silva on the wing to allow us to rest one of the wingers. 1 injury isn't going to make us dependent on 3 players starting every game.

And that's two solutions before even turning to youth or just getting creative with formations.

Realistically we'll be fine at the moment if one of Jesus or Aguero are fit for 90% of the season. The worry is that both have questionable injury histories, and if both were to be injured long term, we'd be fucked.

2 long term injuries would fuck is in any position though, GK, CB especially, Fullback, defensive midfield.
 
if City new that the gunners would not sell sanchez they would not give a bid. they are fairly sure that Gunners will sell him to city if the price is right.
I think it will end up at 65m at the end. and I fairly sure wenget will have to let him go.
Anyway thats my "two cents" in this summer "saga" [emoji6]

we had sterling, silva and Sane on the bench on Saturday. Argubly the best bench in world football. I would like Sanchez bit we're not desperate for him and still should comfortably win the league without him. Never really understand the injury argument. Its like saying if barcelona lose messi and suarez there fucked, any team would be but injuries are just part of the game.
