Ok bit stunned by this. Am I missing a really obvious reason we don't use one of the youth as a squad player, if that is what Evans is being bought for? Would an academy youngster not count as home grown, and enable us to buy another quality non-home player to add to Champions league squad? Is Mangala really going?

Are any of them good enough?

That would mean going into the season with Kompany, Stones, Otamendi, Tosin and Denayer. Denayer looks to be off so four players for three positions.

Because they're not good enough/not ready yet.

Long time member, infrequent poster.
If this is the way forward we might as well close the academy.
All these posts about Diaz, foden etc, under pep they will be lucky to get 3 hours first team experience in the prem.

I doubt any of those could fill in for Mangala if he leaves.

If we were signing Evans as cover for midfield I'd take your point, but which one of the youth team do you want to bring in to play centre back?

Ok thanks, so you reckon Mangala is off or just not suited to possession football and therefore not in Peps plans at all?

And why should Foden get in ahead of Gundogan, Silva, De Bruyne? The latter three are seasoned professionals with experience and rare skill. Foden had a solid debut against United and has looked lost every time he's played since. He has undeniable talent but probably isn't ready for more than three hours a season. He's still a teenager too.
