Alexis Sanchez

I wonder what Sanchez is thinking, i wonder if he blames us as well as Arsenal?

You can bet Wenger and the Arsenal media trolls will do so as part of their plan to get him to sign a new contract.

Because if he does not and/or Arsenal do not get top 4 in 8 months time Wenger is stuffed.

Hopefully Pep has already put him right.

still can sign Sanchez for much cheaper in January.
also still can be registered for UCL in later stages.

Only if he has not signed a new contract by then. Which I would be certain Arsenal will go all out to get him to do as it is the only way their actions will appear anything other than outright stupidity.

Down to Sanchez whether he does but the odds now are far higher than this time yesterday and probably 50/50 as opposed to zero.

How would that work? Arsenal could have played the same game with him as they did with us.

Well Arsenal would have had all summer to find themselves a replacement. And if Sanchez had come out in June saying that he wanted to leave it would have pretty much forced their hand.

I don't see it. I think both ourselves and Sanchez handled it well. We offered what we believed he was worth and they didn't accept. They still can't win, we could end up getting an even better deal in January or next summer and so could the player. And let's be honest, Arsenal knew he wanted to leave, knew we wanted him, and have had ample time to find a replacement.

All those blaming Sanchez for not putting in a transfer request are just being unrealistic.

It would have changed nothing.

He made his views obvious and it made no difference. Arsenal tried to sell him to a foreign club and he turned them down. They would not sell to us until they had run out of all hope of that.

Just how would a transfer request have done anything but hurt Alexis further amongst players he had to know there was a risk he would be stuck with if Arsenal did not back down.

It is a bit egotistical and selfish to think he should burn all his bridges knowing as he has to do how stubborn Wenger was being.

And it has not (yet) helped Coutinho has it?

I just hope that City and Sanchez' camp had already made plans for what they would do if Arsenal did fail to play ball in the last window: the chances that they would were always quite high; very high as it turns out.

The plan should be Sanchez to stubbornly refuse to even talk about a new contract and for City to go back in January with another bid but at a much lower fee. If that fails, Sanchez waits it out until July and signs for us then.

In both cases, he gets a signing-on fee that at the very least compensates him for any lost earnings.

It seems clubs are taking a harder line now Liverpool, Southampton, Arsenal and even Leicester. Players at these clubs tried forcing moves but it hasn't worked. I think we should have put in a bid earlier or more realistically had other players as back up options.

Maybe City and Sanchez could have done something differently but can anyone be sure what would have worked. This deal didn't happen due you Arsenal's arrogance and, if Sanchez does not sign a new contract, stupidity.

If we are challenging for the title & CL campaign going well it could be a goer. May save us £30million + too on what we've just offered.

Ideally could do with Arsenal imploding and having a shocker in the league.
3 games, 7 goals conceded, sold a CH, best player mega pissed off. They're already having a shocker......

The deal was done in 2011 but he chose not to sign for us, and probably used the deal to get better terms in Spain,

Why go back to him for his worst years? Trevor Sinclair 2, lucky escape.

This Girona or New York purchase is a no no as Arsenal are not that thick and would never agree.

And we are not PSG so would be banned from transfers until the next ice age for some made up reason because of 'cheating' as all the papers would insist.

Happily we are not that shallow.

Unless all parties quickly agree a pre contract now for a (say) £40 million deal in January and Arsenal get a player willing to go to them then this will not happen as I suspect we will not return in a year's time at a price Arsenal or Alexis's agent will accept or other clubs will not pay.

(Arsenal fan - not here to mock)

Curious as to why this forum, and so many other City fans, are putting the blame in Arsenal's court.

Money isn't an issue for you guys so,presumably if you'd just bid enough a few months earlier you would have had him.

Presumably because Arsenal weren't willing to negotiate until the final days of the window?
