New Kompany Calf Injury?

There's an egotistic arrogance with Kompany where playing for Belgium is concerned. It's the reason why he fell out with both Pellegrini and Mancini.

Kompany must know his time as a footballer is drawing to a close, but he's obviously refusing to give up on international glory to help extend his club football. We need to sign his replacement ASAP. I've said for a while we should be in balls deep for VVD.
I wouldn't necessarily call it arrogance, more just plain patriotism. His determination to play in the 2008 Olympics was the entire reason Hamburg were keen to sell him, so we should be grateful. Whilst I fully agree he ought to be more considerate with regards to his club career, I don't think we should begrudge him for caring about his national team. From our perspective it's obviously upsetting, I'm sure from his it's his pride and purpose to play for the national team when possible.

I'm hoping someone at City has finally just figured out that United, Liverpool etc always pull their top players out of Internationals and we are doing the same.

Again, piss poor planning this summer will cost us the league. If you're splurging £60m on Alexis - you do it when the positions that are weakest have been filled. We needed a CB, we didn't buy one, we needed a DM, we didn't buy one, we needed four fullbacks, we bought three.

The lack of foresight is fucking baffling.

I said this a day after we missed out on Sanchez. We left it till the last day of window to put a bid in for Sanchez. Why didn't we do it earlier so we could spend the money elsewhere if arsenal knocked us back? Should have slapped down £65m for van dijk in June, no fucking about. We'd easily be favourites if we had him, now we've got stones and otamendi back together which I don't think are good enough. Hopefully Kompany's not out for long, but his injury record over the past two seasons suggests he will keep picking up these muscle injuries.

If this injury is a re occurence things are ominous. We need a strong CB (and not JFE) as this is just as important as getting Alexis, if not more. Should have used the Alexis funds for a CB because the cold facts are that VK, as great as he is, cannot be relied on to be there week in week out. I have a nagging feeling things are the same as last season with marginal improvement. Hope I'm wrong and we spank Liverpool. This is our first proper test for the season!

Just a question here, but did Kolarov want out? I recognize many feel he's not a Pep player, was out of contract and he's certainly made his share of mistakes over the years (and been a periodic hero with that thunder foot of his) but his versatility seemed important as a squad player; he was at least adequate as a CB or LB as a fill-in.

Yes, he asked to leave the club.

If Vinny is out got to keep Mangala out of the line up. He was shocking when they stuffed us 4 1 a couple of years ago.

Should have gone balls deep for VvD.

Southampton were taken over by new and rich owners and said no he wasn't for sale. That being despite the transfer request. That despite the going on strike. And let's not forget that VVD apparently only wanted Liverpool anyway.

It could also be part of his mindset that he WILL recover from injury and play normally, which would include internationals. Perhaps he might have retired from international footbal if there wasn't a WC at the end of the season. Perhaps playing in that WC (which Belgium could win) was part of his motivation to recover from his recent injuries.

We pay his wages his injuries and playing time have been horrendous for us, it's pure selfishness on his part to be playing internationals, if I was are owners I'd give give him an ultimatum, there no sentimentality in this game I'm sorry if he picked it up playing for us I can get over that but he should not be playing for Belgium anymore.

He's captain of one of the favorites to win the WC next summer. If we start making those sort of ultimatums we might find that some players will be reluctant to join us.

Probably pedantic this, but he's not captain anymore. I think the main brunt of everyone's frustration here (apart from the fact we should have bought another centre half in the window) is the fact he picked this injury up playing against Gibraltar, we wouldnt have played him against Curzon Ashton so why should Belgium play him against the national equivalent of them.

Anyway the show must go on, time for Pep to show how good he is by getting Stones and Otamendi playing well in a partnership.

Agreed, Plenty of players get hammered for not being patriotic enough, and not having any pride in wearing the shirt. I'd say Kompany's passion is one of the traits that makes him the leader he is.

Stop talking bollocks!
