New Kompany Calf Injury?

Playing for Belgium against Gibraltar shouldn't have amounted to anything other than an elongated training session.
He would hardly be over exerted in such a match.
Ok, he took a knock, maybe something and nothing, maybe more serious. It's all speculation at the moment.
The old adage says ' no news is good news ', remember?
As for Vinny playing international football, I wish him well.
It's easy for us to say that he should think of the club (which I am sure he IS doing ) but just suppose Belgium reach the WCF.
Then just suppose that a defensive error costs them the trophy.
Then imagine Vinny watching from the stands or on TV and thinking to himself, "If I'd have been on the field I wouldn't have made that mistake!" For the rest of his life he would feel that he had been robbed of his finest career moment.

He was going to play 2 games in 4 days over the international break which is disappointing. Guardiola, Martinez and Kompany should be more professional than that. I assumed perhaps wrongly that the club would be managing his game time this season because a fit Kompamy is decisive.

Hopefully he trains today and comes through the session OK, but we have got a lot of games coming up and possibly the most awkward of our CL games on Wednesday so we wont be taking risks. If he doesn't make it, hopefully Stones and Otamendi come through with flying colours and we turn it into a positive.

Why is it not just the act of a patriotic footballer? I seem to remember Mancini sacked the doctor who kept virtually the entire squad fit for his title winning season and Kompany gets the blame.
No accounting for some folks logic.
Kompany was injured for weeks during our title winning season. He was nearing fitness & we wanted him to rest during the international break so he was ready for the title run in.

Kompany reported for Belgium against the clubs wishes & stated it was because he didn't want to miss the opportunity to walk his international side out, whilst completely disregarding what the club advised.

He risked himself for Belgium, but it's Manchester City Football Club who had to pay his wages & mend his broken body whilst he was unable to play. Personally, I couldn't give a rats arse about international football & I'm tired of us having to suffer fatigued & injured played throughout the srason because of it.

Our first title winning season he was fit the entire season. The medical staff were sacked the ones who came in appeared to be utterly incapable of keeping anyone fit and people are then surprised that their advice was not fully trusted.
The egotistical arrogance that gave us injury problems was our management not our players.

But the players DO give a rats arse for international football.

I wouldn't necessarily call it arrogance, more just plain patriotism. His determination to play in the 2008 Olympics was the entire reason Hamburg were keen to sell him, so we should be grateful. Whilst I fully agree he ought to be more considerate with regards to his club career, I don't think we should begrudge him for caring about his national team. From our perspective it's obviously upsetting, I'm sure from his it's his pride and purpose to play for the national team when possible.
I hear what you're saying, but during our 2012 title run in, he put our title chances on the line so he could lead Belgium out in some meaningless international friendly.

He fell out with both Pellegrini & Mancini over the same thing & has always put playong for Belgium above his City career, but yet it's us who have to do without him & mend his broken body whilst continuing to play him.

FIFA & UEFA are corrupt organisations, who make the majority of their revenue from international matches. So we have a situation whereby the organisations who govern all professional clubs, also stand to gain the most from international football.

Hence why Club v Country rows are always do heavily weighted in a countries favour. Essentially, when a row erupts, UEFA/FIFA are not an impartial arbitor, they are the Judge, Jury & Executioner which is wrong imo.

So our management nobbled our players then?

Are most awkward of CL games, come off it. Napoli away is a horror game. This is Dutch football, did you watch Ajax vs United?

I'd rest Kompany in most of the CL games.

Yes they do. But their employers & fans suffer because of it. I'd love to be able to sod off on international duty for something or the other, but I think my company who pay my wages may take a more detrimental view of my continued absence.

This whole international thing does my head in & I honestly believe a resolution needs to be found. Just off the top of my head, why don't we have an international break throughout December where players can opt not to spend time with their families & got around Europe playing their qualifiers?

Then they could complete the balance of the qualifiers in June, so the league season suffers as little disruption as possible. If players opted to miss Christmas & give up their summer hols, then that's purely their choice. Clubs would still suffer because we'd have fatigued players, but sensible players would then see these meaningless international friendlies & qualifiers against San Marino et al for the footballing farce they are.

OK but it's a pivotal game. We need to get off to a good start. Ajax were terrible v Utd, but this is the Champions League. it's the opening group game. Celtic are Celtic, but that was a very tough game.

You would rest Kompany in CL games. I would rest him at times in the season, but there will be league games at home where I would do that. Cup games, and maybe even CL games if we have the group sown up which is a possibility if we can win our opening two games.

Belgium have 2 more games coming up in october. They are now meaningless. Guardiola's job has been made easier now. he can sit down and work this out with Martinez and Kompany. A pity he didn't think about that a fortnight ago. Surely he must have done? I don't know what he was thinking. Every fan of MCFC would have said sit out the Gibraltar game, and play against Greece

Can anybody confirm that he is definitely injured.
The club are saying nothing on the subject.
Fingers crossed he makes the liverpool game.
C.T.I.D

He definitely took a knock to his calf that saw him left out of Belgium's squad and he's definitely not been spotted training with City, I think that's confirmation enough that he is definitely injured.

Whether that injury keeps him out of tomorrow's game is a matter of speculation, the likelihood is though that he will miss out.

I am sure the club will have thought about it and I'd be surprised if we didn't have some contact with Belgium about Kompany. Two things though, firstly we can say what we like to them but ultimately we can't make them do anything. And secondly it would make some sense to me if the club would rather he played in a game that was always likely to be a stroll than a far more demanding game against Greece. We just don't know that was discussed or agreed.

At this stage, even if he is technically fit for tomorrow would we risk him anyway given how careful we've had to be to get him playing regularly again when he's not been fit to train all week? I very much doubt it tbh. Best case probably is that he can get himself training next week and in contention for Wednesday or next weekend.

True.

Sacking the medical team and the defensive coach at the end of that season we're two outrageously bad decisions. We've never quite been the same in either area since.

I remember Batty being the doc, who was the defensive coach?
