Will forced landline rental become the new PPI mis-selling ?

It's quite ironic how SKY single handedly kept BT going years ago with this compulsory landline to use their services nonsense and now BT are fucking over SKY in what must be their unique way of saying 'thanks'.

EDIT: But yeah I agree with the OP. If internet providers can't provide the internet without a landline then they should do something about it themselves or advertise it as the price it will cost to receive the service.

Land lines were initially required when the internet required dial-up to connect. Nowadays with fibre broadband it is neither a necessity or a requirement for the majority of households yet suppliers en masse force customers into this rental. I hope the day comes when they have to pay everyone back like the banks did with the mis-sale of PPI.

Unless you have Virgin or one of the specialist providers in London for example, you still have a copper BT line coming into your house.

I'm more concerned with why petrol at motorway service stations - where the turnover is highest and distribution costs the lowest - costs 20p more that at your local garage.

Those twats have been ripping us all off in one big cartel/collusion for years. Oh, and why is a bag of fruit pastels there £2.80 when it's £1 at Tesco's. Profiteering, pure and simple and since it's clearly coordinated (they all charge the same), ILLEGAL.

overdraft fees!!!

that should be next

You can already claim them... http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/bank-charges

"Haven't you heard?"

Yep. This is an absolute scandal.

I went in Hartshead Moor as I was on fumes and couldn't believe the prices! I put a fiver's worth in and it won't happen again.

Typical "captive audience" extortion like at sporting/entertainment venues.

In agreement with the concept floated by the OP.
Many moons ago we had NTL twice as fast but moved our phone to Sky proving you don't need a landline to have the broadband.
Pisses me off that every time we ask for broadband I say I don't need the phone and they say I do, when I ask why they mumble shit.

But what really gets my goat is that we pay more for the phone if we don't use it than if we do?

The time for honouring themselves will soon be at an end.
Virgin is undergoing a massive lightening dig at the moment to achieve greater expansion of their networks to the end consumer.
No need for a phone line with Virgin and superb connectivity on ultra high speed with no ariels or daft dishes eh.
Bt and Sky and all of the Motley broadband services will be tripping over themselves to cancel line charges in order to compete on an even footing.
Virgin have been investing in a three billion pound plan known as Project Lightning to expand their services to another four million homes by 2020.

I have SKY fibre and as you rightly say the fibre optic is only from the cabinet to my property, all other connections are copper wire some many many years old.

Car leasing will be the next PPI.
