Fair points.I was comparing them only in terms of quality. That is, the GTA games exist and they are ridiculously good, so other games - regardless of genre - should strive for that standard.
Having said that, I would have been justified in making a direct comparison. The range of genres in games has become so narrow that you pulled me up for comparing two games in which you move a human character around a realistic world in third-person perspective, shooting baddies. It's a sad state of affairs for gaming when these are considered incomparable because of the way you navigate the map. But that's a separate discussion I suppose.
Yup, that's about it. I'm not sure what all the goodwill towards it on here is for?Played about 3 hours of The last of us today and so far very underwhelming. No real exploring to be done, just lots of sneaking around and killing people. Hoping it improves.
The new generation of games (mainly open world with either guns or special powers) are really boring and have been done to death. They're very good graphically but I think the fun is slowly being removed from gaming. Saying that the craze for casual games (dicks playing angry birds/candy crush) are also adding to the downward trend. With the hardware available you think they'd crack it.Fair points.
It has got so much worse hasn't it? I have precisely 3 games in my possession at the moment, one is a football game, and the other 2 are very similar open-world sneaking killing type affairs.

Well let's hope he is wrong.I'd say the story! It was well written! It goes well with what Hideo Kojima said about books, video games and TV merging into one.... Last of Us is a prime example of all 3 of them crammed into 1.

Just been having a go with that myself and yeah it's not bad . Definitely better than Battlefront 1. Still don't like it as much as Battlefield 1 or 4 as an FPS.Star Wars Battlefront 2 Beta.
Once again, lovely to look at, deep in lore and already miles better than the last outing. Which isn't hard.
A few annoying details, like having to wait to re-join after a death in groups of 4 and very linear map which always pushes you forward/ back.
Still...beta...and some good signs. It's Dice after all.
It's as though the improved technology has narrowed the possibilities. The ability to create realistic worlds means that developers do just that. But in the days of limited hardware (Spectrum, Amiga etc), this wasn't possible so developers came up with weird and imaginative concepts.Fair points.

It's, like the predecessors, aimed at the PlayStation generation rather than the more mature PC brigade but as it stands it's not bad. No real depth though but at least the guns feel satisfyingly different.Just been having a go with that myself and yeah it's not bad . Definitely better than Battlefront 1. Downloaded it yesterday, not usually my bag but thought I'd give it a go. Had a try of the first couple of trials and must admit I'm rather impressed with it.Quite impressed with the gran turismo demo

Seems quite a lot to do offline? which i like cos im not into online that much eitherIs there much to the offline game? I loved GT4 but reviews I've read suggest it's now got a completely online focus, which doesn't interest me as much.
Absolutely sums up where gaming is at. With the hardware capabilities nowadays you'd expect better but games are becoming as throwaway as music singles and films.Anyone else sick of all the loot boxes/micro-transactions in games these days? It's a disgrace! Developers purposely making games a grind to encourage players to buy in game currency with real money. This shit has gotta stop asap. The new Star Wars game would be ok if it weren't for the loot boxes (crates). You see this shit pulled in nearly every game released now. The new NBA live game has loot boxes and you can't even edit or create players/rosters...seriously, wtf!
Online multiplayer has ruined gaming for me. I'm concerned for Red Dead 2 and the future GTA games. I've always loved the single player campaigns but even Rockstar are realising the money is in the online modes and they are a letdown for me. GTA online is bang average imo but it gets all the attention/DLC nowadays. Single player campaigns allow for a lot more immersion and story but developers don't make continuous money off them once the initial game as been bought.
I've been a gamer my whole life but getting annoyed with the whole industry now. No creativity; all we get are sequels, fps games, unfinished games so developers can charge for DLC later on, games purely focused on the online aspect, and games with micro-transactions & loot boxes to rip off the gamers who make the industry what it is.
