Cool stuff on the radio

Sunday nights on Talkradio, the unexplained

also there's a programme on hosted by Bob Mills - Tragedy plus Time equals comedy - comedians talking about the bizz - its actually very funny some of the old stories they have and interviews with some ld time comics - whiles away an hour or two with hardly a mention of Brexit, football nor the latest mass shooting in the USA

dad's army and steptoe and son radio shows are really good to listen at night in bed

Radio 4 extra is re-running a reading of Rogue Male a book by Geoffrey Household which is brilliant - Michael Jayston reading its the story of an attempted assassination of a despotic leader - written between the wars to critical acclaim so clearly an idea of what the writer wanted to happen to Hitler - will be on catchup and well worth a listen

Radio 4 on Monday. Never heard of this.

Scotland's Lord Haw Haw
Document
Radio played a key role in the propaganda campaigns of Nazi Germany. The most notorious personality in this radio war was William Joyce, or 'Lord Haw-Haw' - who came to be known as the English voice of Nazi Germany. But he wasn't alone in this effort.
Professor Jo Fox of Durham University discovers the lost transcripts of Radio Caledonia, a 'secret station' designed to disseminate defeatist propaganda to the people of Scotland and sow seeds of dissent among its listeners. Set up by the German Propaganda Ministry in 1940, the presenter was Scottish national Donald Grant.
Jo Fox examines the Nazis' attempts to appeal to Scottish nationalist feeling through these broadcasts and asks why, unlike Joyce, Donald Grant was spared execution.

Describes his crimes and the effect on his family. Masseur.

Sure, saw that bit on the description, but wondering "why he sexually abused his clients and how his community and family stuck by him after he was caught"?

That's it, getting the turntable out.

While searching for Cheesy's vlog I came across this interesting series of podcasts, each seems to be about 30mins long and feature different notorious British crimes, examples being the Sadie Hartley murder, the bloke who disappeared in his canoe, also some more obscure crimes. I've only listened to one so far but seems decent enough, couple of adverts during but I suppose that's to be expected.

Apologies if duplicated but there's no mention in this thread, then again it's not really radio.

Ps, still not found Cheesy's vlog, anyone?

Here is a masterpiece of a radio series from back in the eighties called The Bradshaws which aired on Piccadilly radio, anyone remember it ? I was grafting in a dark satanic mill and the mill owner used to tanoy this over to ease our tedium because happy waifs were productive waifs.

Favourite characters were Billys mam Audrey who kept getting her prenuptuations wrong and little Michael Morris his best pal who played a blinder. After radio Buzzers work was transfered to a mini series and here are two of them for your kind perusuls.

Can I have a budgie.

I Was John Lennon's Trauma Surgeon

Dr David Halleran was the trauma surgeon who held John Lennon's heart in his hands after he was fatally shot outside the Dakota buildings in New York.

Halleran was a third-year general surgery resident at New York's Roosevelt Hospital when an unidentified man with four gunshot wounds to the chest was brought to the emergency room. But Halleran didn't recognize the victim and began trying to restore his vital signs like any other patient.

During this time one of the nurses said, "That looks like John Lennon." Halleran was not so sure.

Halleran, a Beatles fan himself, describes the brief time he spent with Lennon as he desperately tried to bring his heart back to life, including massaging it in his hands. This sudden meeting in the most tragic of circumstances became a remarkable event in Halleran's life as well as a defining cultural one for Beatles lovers around the world.
