Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

City is very different to Bayern, you have more history of success, we have more likelihood of future success, and in a league which might float his boat a lot more. Nobody above him at City will rock his boat, and he will be keen to influence the academy flow through process. There is a lot at City that makes it a perfect job for him.

In terms of an earlier poster, no way would Pep leave City to manage England. He knows that if City played England over 2 legs we would beat England home and away

Our academy plays Pep football... Pep gave bundles of stuff to Hermann Gerland - exercises etc. - when he left. And him and Hoeneß are very good friends - remember the lunch they lately had in which he told him about Heynckes and the next coach question long before everybody else knew it. Yes, at Bayern he had to work within the limits the club gives to the coaches - especially with the budget there is - but there weren't big problems with the board etc. You all should know how it is in your normal work environment - there is no perfect world - not at Bayern and not at City either - especially not for a perfectionist the way Pep is.

You are right - there is some less bondages at City - but I doubt that this is the main important thing for Pep. He will leave when he sees that he has the team really playing the way he wants and when he cannot improve things anymore - and when maybe a new project is waiting. Pep's success is his teaching and how the team plays - not trophies...

Those kinky Germans!

Was surprised nobody had picked up on that phrasing yet. :)

Keep the man for as long as we can he's an absolute genius and pioneer of the game the likes of which seldom come along.

I wonder whether last season's perceived failures could actually be a blessing in terms of strengthening Pep's resolve and desire to do great things with the club.

Where could he actually go from here?

He won’t manage Spain. He’s done Barca Bayern and now us (obviously). Don’t think Paris especially given the politics. US is a retirement home. So if things are going well Pep should set up shop/dynasty.

Into the sunset with his family, and who would blame him ? It might be 5 years yet though :)

This is what I’m saying. He’s 46. Even if he did want to go into the sunset with his family that is unlikely for maybe 10 years. And that would be early. So I don’t doubt he would maybe want one more job elsewhere but what are his options. And if he took that at the end of his current contract then he would certainly have no where to go after. I see him staying for 5 years at least.
