ManUre fans said the same about Nasri in 2011, but turn them down he did.

And yes, I do think it sounds very arrogant & represents everything I hated about the old Sky 4, until we busted their shit right open.

Please do not allow us to become like those who we so despised!!

Ok I give up, I can see we are not going to agree. It was my opinion and I stand by it, yours is different and I can accept that.

City were the exception to the rule because of the scale of the project and the resources our owners were putting in place to achieve the ambitions. We also paid top dollar for the top talent we acquired.

I could believe he’d favour pool over city if he was a die hard fan or if he is offered more money. But all things being equal I still think he’d be mad not to sign if we were in for him......excellent chance of a PL winners medal, making history in PL every game, getting coached by one of the very best managers there has ever been, potential for another trophy or two....
We weren't the exception to the rule, we've proved ourselves to be such over the last 9 years.

At the time, we were another potential Portsmouth with an owner who claimed to be loaded, much like the schmuck who bought Malaga. We had to prove ourselves over time, but at the time, on the face of it we were no less of a risk.

I mean even now we have people still expecting Sheikh Mansour to get bored & up sticks. You can only prove your intentions over time.

As such its very easy for me to imagine that VVD could prefer the potential of Liverpool above the potential for bench time collecting splinters in his arse at City.

I'm kind of torn on this one. It's a lot of money to spend on a position that I'm not sure we need to strengthen immediately. I'd prefer to see that kind of money spent on young defender like Andreas Christensen. That would give us an incredible centre back pairing for the next decade. I believe that Chelsea could be tempted to sell for the right price.

Yes we were. Our owners changed the whole footballing business model and pretty much all of our signings at the time mentioned being convinced by the scale of the ‘project’. Just the size and ambition of the investment in East Manchester was enough for anybody to be convinced of their intentions; the argument about Mansour upping sticks when he gets bored was just a lazy acusation made by rival fans (supported by some elements in the media)

Perhaps it’s easy for you to see why VVD would prefer Liverpool but I don’t agree at all. I’d be shocked if talented players were overly concerned about the possibility of spending large amounts of time on the bench. If that’s the case here then maybe it’s in city’s best interest he signs for Liverpool.

There were more than enough reports about a final £120m bid with £20 in add ons made by Barca. WC year or not, I fail to see what that has to do with Liverpool refusing to sell Coutinho.

It was quite simple. Klopp saw this as LFC's chance to show the football world they meant business & he was backed all the way by the club's owners by refusing Coutinho's sale.

They bought Keita, albeit they had to essentially loan him back for a season & but for tapping up VVD, they'd have probably got him too.

Liverpool don't have the finances that we have, but are slowly but surely building an impressive squad. You can take them lightly all you like, but I won't.

In terms of VVD, it remains to be seen if Southampton will still sell to LFC after what happened in the summer, or if VVD wants any other PL club apart from LFC, but I suppose we'll all know soon enough.

What I will say is that if we're buying players from LFC & competing with them for transfers, I fail to see how you can underestimate them. Not for the first time, I suppose I just see things that aren't clearly apparent.

So you fail to see that Coutinho having a good season for Liverpool while fighting for his place in the Brazil team then going to the WC and having a good tournament will increase his value??? Looks pretty obvious to me.

I said if they keep their best players like Coutinho, Salah etc and add more quality players then of course they will be a major threat but I can’t see that happening.

Never forget ;-)

Sorry didn’t realize they bought him already...

You think with VVD and Naby all their problems are solved??

No think it through.

You're saying he shouldn't join them because they've shown no ambition to fix the defence.

Bit if he agrees to join them then they're fixing the defence aren't they? So the lack of ambition isn't an issue.

Unlike some posters on here, I do see the credit in going to the dippers. He would be first choice there while here he could possibly be third choice in a 2 CB system for a bit. Liverpool are a few defensive signings away from being pretty good.

So if last summer we signed only Walker and kept the rest, would be showing ambition as you say to fix our defense?? Sure we can say that, but would we solve anything?? Not really hence we bought 2 more full backs and a keeper. We are currently looking to add a CB as well.

VVD going Liverpool shows ambition if we can call it that but they need much more than him if they really want to compete for the title next season, that’s my point.

Maybe I’m wrong and they keep Coutinho and Salah, sign VVD, a keeper, fullbacks, and replace Can. Let’s see if that happens though.

I think that is difficult to do without Mendy.

Not sure who else could play the left wingback role.
Sàne played there at the begining of the season. Now I know he was poor against Everton in that position, but wasn't Pep not playing Sàne because of his preseason. Mendy also plays more of a wing back and if I remember he got injured making a stupid tackle because he was out of position.
Think against park the bus teams, we can play 3-5-2 and play Sergio and Jesus upfront and hopefully see the best of the 2 of them again.

Would he be a bench warmer if we went to 3 at the back. Still think he is going to Liverpool but like people have said why would you not want to play for City under Pep. Now I dont intend to be arrogrant or raggish but if he doesnt believe that he can break into Citys back line then he doesnt have the ambition to be a great cb. He can go to Liverpool and walk straight into their back line. Just look at Delph I thought he was mad not to leave, but wanted to stay and fight, now that shows that he believes he is good enough.

I haven't seen enough of VVD to really make judgement on whether or not he is 60 million defender. But even if he is, im not sure he is the right fit for us.

A player coming in at that price tag will be expecting and expected to play a lot which could lead to issues assuming Nico and Stones stay as first choice. Given the position we are in we have the luxury of going for a yiunger, cheaper project player rather than somebody that would be immediately looking to come in as a starter. If that player could also fill in at left back that would be even better again!

We play 2-5-3 against “PTB” teams now, but we still don’t play them together. However, that’s mainly so they can each get some rest!
