I'm just thinking that he wants the move but has been told by Liverpool to rock the boat a bit to get the fee down and Soton aren't having it. Highly likely. Maybe Soton only became offended when van Dijk came out saying he wanted Liverpool, thereby potentially reducing the transfer fee.
