If these rumours are to be believed and city and pool are in for him, you’d have to question the lads judgement and ambition if he didn’t choose city....imo of course

To be fair pal prices are inflated anyway and think we get fucked over because of who we are now, yes £20 million was tongue in cheek but honestly don't see £60 for that amount of dough there has to be someone better for that amount I may be wrong though
but it is only £20 million plus Mangala

That would be the opinion of every non Liverpool supporter too.

I know, it’s difficult to say without it sounding small time and arrogant like those cnuts down the road.

I think he’d be fucking mad to pass up playing for this manager, in this team, this season

You could equally argue that going to Liverpool and trying to win the title with them is more ambitious than joining than the champions elect. It’s certainly a bigger challenge.

£140m?? I highly doubt they bid that much. I remember reading the actual bid was around 100m.

Had it not been a World Cup year they would of sold. Coutinho is having a good season and needs to continue doing well or could easily lose his WC place.

So Coutinho plays well this season and does well in the WC with Brazil and his value goes up even more. Brazil have a great chance of being champions. Only logical thing to do was refuse all bids for him. I said this in the summer. This was the only option from a business point of view.

Refusing to improve a weak defense and keeper also shows little ambition. Don’t believe the propaganda, they could challenge if they keep their best players, buy VVD and another CB, buy some fullbacks, a DM and keeper. Can’t see that happening so can’t see them challenging.
There were more than enough reports about a final £120m bid with £20 in add ons made by Barca. WC year or not, I fail to see what that has to do with Liverpool refusing to sell Coutinho.

It was quite simple. Klopp saw this as LFC's chance to show the football world they meant business & he was backed all the way by the club's owners by refusing Coutinho's sale.

They bought Keita, albeit they had to essentially loan him back for a season & but for tapping up VVD, they'd have probably got him too.

Liverpool don't have the finances that we have, but are slowly but surely building an impressive squad. You can take them lightly all you like, but I won't.

In terms of VVD, it remains to be seen if Southampton will still sell to LFC after what happened in the summer, or if VVD wants any other PL club apart from LFC, but I suppose we'll all know soon enough.

What I will say is that if we're buying players from LFC & competing with them for transfers, I fail to see how you can underestimate them. Not for the first time, I suppose I just see things that aren't clearly apparent.

Nah, that’s some fuzzy logic you’ve got there Ric.

Surely the best players only want to play for the best teams where they have a chance of winning trophies.

^^This^^

I really fear some of us are beginning to sound like ManUre, Arsenal, Chelsea & Liverpool fans when we first posed a threat to their PL dominance.

I pray we never end up thinking we're the be all & end all of football & have a god given right for the best players & success.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of all the "Who on Earth would go to Liverpool" comments - feels very reminiscent of what other teams' fans used to say about us.

Liverpool have a defence which is massively let down by the individual errors of 3 players - the 2 CB's and the GK. If they got players of VVD's calibre in each of those positions, they'd be at least our closest contenders, and could even shape up to push us. Naby Keita will be another phenomenal player joining them in the summer. Klopp has not been the messianic figure Liverpool fans and the media hyped him up to be on his arrival, but he is still a very good coach, I'd put him at worst 3rd best in the league behind Pep and Poch, and he's actually won things, unlike Pochettino.

So I can easily see Klopp selling it to Van Dijk to be the guy who comes in and starts fixing their defence.

He could definitely still prefer to come here, and I expect most players would take us, the sure bet, over Liverpool - but it's not an outrageous suggestion that he might choose them.

Spot on.

Fully disagree there mate. A player will join the club where he feels he can win the most trophies, unless he moves for money. We can offer him more money and a way better chance at trophies. As I said earlier the only reason he’d join the dippers is if he’s a lifelong Liverpool fan just like Chamberlain when he turned down more money from arsenal and Chelsea.

I think you missed my second post where I acknowledged that it’s difficult to say these things without sounding arrogant because I think it genuinely is. I’ve got nothing against other teams in top 6 but surely at this moment in time if city give you a call you would be certifiable to turn them down.

I fully disagree with you based on the fact your argument is exactly the same one used against us 7 years ago by those above us at the time.

They sat on their collective arses expecting their 'istree to win the day. History has proven them to be very wrong.

Not sure that’s true mate. You have to factor in other things like amount of playing time, captaincy prospects etc. The idea of being a bigger fish in a smaller pond (in terms of squads, at least) might appeal to him. The fact that Liverpool were much more interested than us in summer could come into play too.

ManUre fans said the same about Nasri in 2011, but turn them down he did.

And yes, I do think it sounds very arrogant & represents everything I hated about the old Sky 4, until we busted their shit right open.

Please do not allow us to become like those who we so despised!!

No it isn't. You only have to look at City circa 2010 - 2012 for your answer to that one.

City were the exception to the rule because of the scale of the project and the resources our owners were putting in place to achieve the ambitions. We also paid top dollar for the top talent we acquired.

I could believe he’d favour pool over city if he was a die hard fan or if he is offered more money. But all things being equal I still think he’d be mad not to sign if we were in for him......excellent chance of a PL winners medal, making history in PL every game, getting coached by one of the very best managers there has ever been, potential for another trophy or two....
