Alexis Sanchez

I get the distinct feeling that City are playing a blinder here, and benefiting from a long-running open dialogue with Sanchez’s camp. I think he is sitting tight waiting for us to do the deal and everything else is just bluster and negotiation. I cannot believe for a second that the last minute United interest is anything more than mischief making by MUFC/AFC.
What a bunch of pricks they are. Amateurs in every respect.

I think you have hit the nail on the head there.

In terms of the Sanchez deal, I do think that we should be doing everything sensible to sign him. The issue we might have is that the Rags are desperate and are now a far more profligate organisation than our own. I find it quite ironic at times how people go on about City's money whilst the club have been increasingly prudent over the last few years.

I'm not as pessimistic as Tolmie about our situation but I want the insurance policy. Also, I want us to spend every last penny we can afford (under FFP) in this window to strengthen and pull away from our opponents; plus doing everything we can to make this a truly historic season.

I think we have a fantastically well run club but room remains for improvement and I do not think we are quite as ruthless as we should be.

Of course, we have to sign players who want to be at City for the right reasons and have the right attitude.

I like the idea of having fresh blood, particularly in attacking positions, in this kind of situation. Just to keep everyone on their toes.

If I had the choice, in my ideal world, it would be some shock signing, 19 year old Brazillian wonderkid who can do 100 metres in 10 secs & shoot from distance with both feet, tbh, but Sanchez will do fine.

But I couldn't be less bothered if we don't sign him.

As far as any calamity which could severely cost us, I don't think it's the attack which is likely to do that, it's a couple of cb injuries & 20 games of Mangala.

I wiish we had another top cb, but that looks as if it's been put down, yet again in favour of attack (possibly due to Jesus' injury) & it would be a bit of bad luck tbf, if we couldn't muddle through with a few fill in games from Vinny & the Mangler, to keep Otta & Stones fit for the main ones.

But imo, if there was to be a problem, that would be it.

That post from Tolmie was very interesting as I had not considered that perspective of Sanchez basically helping us string Arsenal and United along for revenge that both he and us would doubtless love after last Summer. It is a plausible theory.

If true and Sanchez does sign it demoralizes both of them at a key time in the season too.

When I saw the Daily Mail this morning - a piece headed 'City open the door to Jose over Sanchez' and credited to Jack Gaughan, Chris Wheeler and Sam Mokbel it had this line in it that sounds worrying: 'sources close to the Chilean forward indicated last night he could be tempted to turn his back on the Etihad and head for Old Trafford instead if United's financial package is lucrative enough.'

That is puzzling as he could have got more elsewhere and would do in the Summer if money was the only option as no transfer fees would need to be paid by all the competing clubs. Not to mention living in the same city and watching Pep's team win the league seems a bizarre thing to do based on his very obvious desire to be here. Anywhere but next door and looking at what you could have won seems more plausible.

So I can see the argument these sources were deliberately misleading the media, Hope so!

One thing I think is sure there is no way Soriano would play politics or the scorned man to get revenge over Arsenal for £10 or £15 million if he thought there was any chance the outcome would lose a player desperate to come here and in the process annoy even slightly a manager they want to get to stay for longer. So it is not the fee on its own.

Everyone at City is clearly on board whatever strategy they are following and will live with the outcome content. This is not some stupid posturing that has let in a rival - as it may be painted by the biased media.

I know we have the hump over the way Arsenal messed us about in the summer but we were prepared to pay 60 million, plus agents fees and wages then. Now we can get him for 35 million, allegedly, plus wages which would probably equate to the 60 million flat fee we were prepared to pay back then. Unless we have a cast iron guarantee he will only join us it seems churlish to lose him to the rags now.

He's on about Yaya - he's like a stuck fucking record, can't go a post without going on about his hatred for the player.
Hahaha!!! I think every bluemooner and his/her dog knows this but thankfully at the end of this season we can lay the issue of Yaya to rest.

60m when he is free in a few months? fuck that

What is interesting is how similar what Sanchez did last Summer and now regarding other clubs seems to be.

Tells PSG he wants a lot of money. Now United have been 'encouraged' to offer similar huge sums.

We had to be aware what he apparently told PSG he wanted to go there instead of to us.

Much what United now believe they need to offer.

We all realise his stance last Summer to PSG was basically - not interested - I would want silly money. I want to go to City. If we thought he really wanted silly money then we would have gone no further chasing him.

Unless he has suddenly decided he DOES want silly money we surely know his actual desires on that front. And would have walked by now if they were critical.

So are you saying we should pay what they want?

I respect Hugh greatly and he has shown before that he has connections. I assume he's talking about Sanchez here.

If he would go to the Rags rather than us due to the money involved, then so be it imo.

But I still think it is all bullshit .

I am saying 6 months ago we were prepared to pay 60 million for the fee alone, now we can get the whole package, fee and wages, for the price we were prepared to pay just for the transfer fee alone 6 months ago. Is he a lesser player now than 6 months ago?

I am saying if we know for certainty he will only sign for us we can stand firm. If however we lose him to the rags on principle and pride then it seems daft, but I will be happy whatever path the club take.

He either chooses to now sign for us and earn for argument sake £250,000 and on the face of it at least win a premier league medal this season working for Pep.

Or maybe £350,000 a week over the road for an average side under Mourinho and maybe win an FA Cup.
