Alexis Sanchez

People are giving up a bit prematurely imo...
I don't think this is over just yet
Seems to be the latest excuse, if not condescending and insulting to our existing players and their understanding of the circumstances.
Mate what do you not understand? That is not how you run a business. Khaldoon and Soriano know a bit more about the wage situation than you

It's odd Arsenal would be so happy for him to go to a far more direct rival than us.

Sam from Goal is spot on......if we have to go and spend 80-100mil on another forward in the summer, this makes no sense.

If City are willing to let Sanchez join United due to the price of the total package (which would be about £40m in fees, plus wages which were agreed) then they must be thinking of their perception of value, rather than cost. They’ll do very well to find a cheaper alternative.

And by value versus cost I mean this: they must have decided it’s not ‘worth’ paying £40m-odd to Arsenal and agent, but it is worth paying £100m at least for another player (insert your own names). That, or simply they’ve been caught on the hop and have absolutely no say in it.

I can see where he’s coming from. Smashing our wage structure by more than double nearly wouldn’t be good for team morale though.

Yeah, it’ll be interesting to see if we do go for anyone else this window.

One slight positive to come out of this is that United are unlikely to be in for another attacker in the summer, so we’ll hopefully avoid any bidding wars with them whoever we target.
Maybe we’ve decided the midfielder is more important at the moment, hence the gossip about Fred and Seri?

Hope we're not getting complacent again. We made the same mistakes in 2012 and 2014 missing out on the likes of Hazard, RVP and Alexis then to United/Chelsea/Arsenal and making cheap buys.

It's better to buy from a position of strength. It's what kept United at the top.

My thoughts exactly.

I wish this 'niceness' about the club would be eradicated and we pay what it takes to put as much distance between us and those rag bastards as possible.

Won't he just take a chunk of Big Nose's wages? Their hawking him out to the MLS.

45mil (fees) and 400k a week on 3year deal (example) (43mil in wages).....88mil total. Sanchez will still be at his peak for the next 3 years. I dont think we would find a better forward in the summer, that gives us the same flexibility for any cheaper!
Then you just need to factor in doubling every other ****'s wages. And hey presto you have a realistic true cost.

Your maths is terrible mate, it's 63m in wages. Plus the agent fee, 120m total at least.

The thing is I don't think the wages would have been anywhere near that if we hadn't fucked around. If we'd gone to Arsenal on 1st January, paid the £35 million they wanted Sanchez would have been at our place on the 2nd ready and eager to sign whatever contract we put in front of him. It was us fucking about, playing chicken with Arsenal over the fee that allowed the rags to put their hat in the ring. We've fucked this and it isn't the first time we've done this either.

He hasn't signed for anyone yet, but carry on

Honestly..I think we are letting our past experience with this transfer affect our future judgement. The overall package is very expensive but is still good value for a world class player.

It's not that he's off to United it's that he isn't coming here and he would have been a great buy.

To me we could have got VVD and Sanchez in the last two windows and we haven't got either. We could have purchased from an unparalleled position of strength but have some how managed to mess this up and handed them to our rivals while we mull over Evans.

Conte was right when he said that other teams must stop us from getting these two players as we would be unstoppable.

Just hoping we have something else planned. Ironic that United are the money team and we are the trophy team...how times change.

Mistake in my book.

Mistake in my book too though there may be factors of which we are all unaware. These two players would have improved us considerably. We seem to have dropped out of both due to finances rather than for footballing reasons. Puzzling.

Players nearly always go for the money. Tevez didn't come to us because of the football we were playing.

With Sanchez we had an extra advantage with Pep but it looks like we may have taken that relationship to be worth more than it was and it's backfired as Sanchez wants to move now not the Summer.
