This actually happening then?
Like for real & not a dream?
Woke up in a cold sweat this morning but sadly this is reality.

All this 'he'll not get much game time as 3/4th choice' stuff isn't the typical city way you just know through injuries/circumstances he'll play loads of games, hopefully our points lead will be enough for all his appalling play we've not lost many points with Mangala on the pitch so hope springs eternal. Bet Tosin is pretty pissed off at this though.

My main worry is I'm not convinced he's defo better than Mangala. He's been largely naff all season and God knows when he last played in a possession based system, never mind one like Peps. Obviously trust in Pep and that, but yeah....

How do you know he's been largely naff all season? Have you honestly watched him week in week out? Im happy to admit I've seen very little of him since he left united but I find it very hard to believe we'd be buying him if he'd been crap all season. Given how much of an obsessive he is, I'm guessing Guardiola has watched every minute he's played and has a much better idea of his suitability than anyone else on this forum.

I guess we have to trust Pep, was hoping we would shell out a bit more and get Maguire in.
Maguire is young, he would need to be played regularly, unlike Evans. Think he's too good to be 4th choice, but not good enough to be 3rd and future Otamendi replacement. I guess the club will add some top prospect like Skriniar or De Ligt sooner or later.

Thus, Evans is a good choice. Beside reasons mentioned by domalino, this transfer would allow to free one foreign spot if/when City decide to shift Delph.

Example A.

Evans is No 6 (or should that be No 2 ? )

Not sure if this guy is a member of this forum but made a great comment on twitter and this is very much how I feel about this transfer....It's almost as if we looking for a cheap bargain with limited upside.

Signing players just as a backups is one of my biggest bug bears in football. It pretty much always ends in the team being worse as they need game time to get to their 7/10 level. They don't get games & instead end up a 5/10. Sign players with potential 1st team quality, always.

That's all well and good but we need someone right now to help see us through the rest of this season. It's January and players at the kind of level to be playing in our first team who aren't cuptied in the champions league don't tend to be available. Another CB will probably arrive in the summer. People are banging on about Inigo Martinez having never watched him but IF we opt for Evans ahead of him then that ought to say a lot about how good Pep actually thinks Martinez is.
