Would say we only 'need' an attacker and I use the word need very loosely. Quality throughout.

Have Fred & Laporte signed then??

After the Sanchez fiasco think we will looking at making a statement by buying a top defender . And hopefully bring Fred in aswell . Then come summer bring in a world class attacking striker in the mould of ascensio from Madrid .

That's the thing with De Jong...he could be a CB, defensive midfielder, #10...he could be a full back in Pep's system.

It doesn't matter, he's just a supremely talented, incredibly intelligent young footballer so you get him in and he probably just plays where you need him. The comparison to Kimmich someone else made is a good one.
Yup. When I see him, my mind thinks, more skillful Kimmich. I don't even know how to wrap my head around that. Just get him in :)

On last night's evidence, Michel Vonk is better than VVD.
VVD was good last night. Don't let the error for the goal fool you.

He coul have scored himself. Was beating everyone to the ball on corners. Also put in a few looped balls over the defense that Mane and Salah messed up.

Liverpool is an inconsistent mess, but they've got a real talent in VVD.

Aymeric, to get back on topic, was on par with VVD 2 years ago. Perhaps he can get back there.

He wouldn't just be 3rd choice, he would rotate and copete with Otamendi regularly and start in the games we play a back 3 when Mendy comes back.
If we are being honest, assuming here that Laporte is good enough to displace one of our starters, its John Stones who will probably be the one who drops to the bench this season. With Otamendi moving to RCB and Laporte to LCB.

John Stones has been below average since his return and has committed a goal causing error in every game since his return. If a top CB comes in, John will be the one needing to prove himself not Otamendi.

He'd be perfect on the left of a back three, with Stones on the right and Otamendi in the middle.

Otamendi has been our most consistent centre half. Stones started the season really strongly, but off late the Stones of last season seems to have made a few guest appearances. I have no doubt he'll come good and that gives us a good blend of experiences if somehow we can keep Vinny fit. The Mangler on the other hand is likely to be out on his ear come the close season.

Wish our fans were as forgiving with our own players!

I think it will depend on the opposition. Against teams with quick wide players (like Liverpool) you could make a strong case for starting him with Stones.

Where do Sane and Sterling fit into 5-3-2?

They generally don't (see the beginning of the season), although both could play down the centre alongside Sergio/Jesus. I suspect that we'd be playing with a back three right now if Mendy was fit, given the form of Sane and Sterling.

Been speaking with a Bilbao fan who says he is surprised we want AL. Says he would be a good signing for Everton.

Says he is a better footballer than defender. That might be why Pep wants him.

Also unusually for Bilbao Laporte is not Basque.

Agreed. Once Stones gets back in stride. It should become a 3 way rotation.

i'd agree with this
