Aymeric Laporte passed his Manchester City medical on Sunday and will be presented officially on Tuesday. City have informed the Basque club that they will pay his release clause today, with their lawyers moving to Madrid from Bilbao to finalise the deal. [El Correo]

You really think he hasn’t been in Manchester already???

Just like Bernardo. There was word he is in Manchester in the airport and shortly after he was announced.
WTF we can't do anything in our shirt until we paid for him,way to go to pull the mood down

Not happening

I reckon pep just said the team is comfortable with 4 at the back but everything is looking convenient for that changing rn:
leroy injured means we lose deepness in the left wing.
zinchenko can't defend against quality players.
is easier to laporte to adapt playing with 3 at the back (less exposure, more game time, etc)

eddy; otamendi, stones, laporte; walker kdb fernandinho silva zinchenko/danilo; sterling and aguero - fix all the "problems" I pointed out

ps: i'm probably overthinking

So, with Laporte in, who goes out between Otamendi & Stones? Im assuming we didnt spend 65m+ for him to be backup.

3 at the back or laporte at lb or stones might be the one who might have to sacrifice initially but with us being in 4 competitions. Plenty of games for everyone

Pep may be thinking of playing a back three in Champions League matches.
Or just rotate completely playing 2 out of Stones, Ota and Laporte, meaning each of them will play 2 out of 3 games, and rest every 3rd game. Sounds reasonable to me as we play 2 games a week all the time anyway.

Sky sports news have the yellow ticker tape with the following headline..
"Athletic Bilbao say aymeric laporte has paid buyout clause in his contract.."
If you read that you'd say the player has bought himself out wouldn't you?
Just think the wording of that statement is a bit strange.

I would think it is just their way of confirming that he is leaving them. They will leave it to City to announce his arrival with his new club.

That's how release clauses work, at least in Spain. Officially speaking, the player has to buy out his contract, so that he is free to sign for a new club.

Er, isn't that what has happened?

Pretty sure that is technically the process in Spain - the player has to buy out their own clause.

the notion we should have borrowed him for interviews before we actually gave them the money, impatience

Not impatience. Looks unprofessional to me that Bilbao have already announced it.

You either tell them to wait until we are ready or announce it straight after them, not a day after. He is calling us “the club” on social media. Just looks funny to me.

But ok, not a big deal. Of course I’m delighted he is joining :)

But that’s what happens and Spain had to change the income tax laws to take it into account.

If a buy out clause is met, it’s ALWAYS Zthe player that pays it.
