How many duffers do you think come in and out of Leicester since they were in the championship without us even noticing? They got lucky. We also buy low cost players, but the chances of unearthing a player of the year at £400k are slim. I'm sure we're trying but in the meantime bringing in players of proven quality so we can challenge on all fronts is important too.

Also, whilst I understand your point that players are happy to be rotated outside of the big games but would be pissed off to miss out on a final. We can't rely on having one outstanding first 11 in the hope they will all be fit when we need them. Asking what happens when everyone is fit is pretty hypothetical really as it's a rare occurrence.

A fair enough reply, I am sure Leicester have bought as many duffers as we have over the years, they certainly got lucky 3 times in their title year with Mahrez and Kante and add vardy and Drinkwater to that mix an they did alright, my point was really lashing out 70m or so on a player that though good is not KDB or indeed the potential of Sane, I know it is boring and I know the football manager style fans don’t like to discuss such things but injuries used to be the time a youth could make a name for himself by being given the minutes to fill in for a bit, I am not advocating putting them in for a champions league final (but then again that has happened successfully in the past for two players both keepers as well) but they do need to get more game time and buying Mahrez lessons that chance moving forward, also he is a renowned moody player and I can’t see him being that happy to play 20-30 games a season after being the big fish in the small pond.

It is all well and good but having 25 world class players can’t work as the way modern footballers view themselves means eventually a third of those will become unsettled at not being first choice, it will be interesting to see what happens at Centre half now with 4 very good players jostling for two places unless we are planning on moving back to 3-5-2 and add to that Tosin who got arsey when we signed otamendi and now has another young centre half to dislodge to get a game, I can see him leaving soon siting lack of game time chances but we will see.

I think VVD money gets him, you can be creative... write off some of the Iheanacho money.

I think this will end up being an undisclosed fee scenario. In reality probably something like £60m plus writing off any buyback clause or reducing balance left to pay us on Kelechi.

You'd probably only have to pay Mahrez £150k a week to get him, if Sanchez wanted £500k a week then you're talking at a difference of about £20m per year in wages. The package is substantially cheaper for Mahrez even at £75m fee.

Sound like poetry for me... :

Mahrez is the best available fucking winger in the Premier League
Some similar level fucking wingers are older and/or unavailable

John Percy was reporting yesterday that Leicester will hold out for £90m - http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football...rget-leicester/amp/?__twitter_impression=true. Percy is god tier for Leicester, so I'm willing to believe that. And if that's really the asking price, I hope and wish that City are looking at other players. If we pay £90m for Mahrez now, it'll come back to haunt us during the summer when every club will quote an inflated price because of that.

In what world do you think a club that has had an opening bid of £50m, suddenly goes up by another £40m??? Don't be silly!!

Think it will be done, we are not that far apart. He wants it, the clubs want it. Its just a matter of price. As long as both sides a reasonable it will get done.

If we can afford it, then to me it makes perfect sense to sign him. Can play multiple positions and is a nightmare for defenders. It would also mean that in the summer we would only be looking for 1-2 players (Fred, Fabinho, Weigl, take your pick) and depending on Aguero (Greizman, Werner or someone else). With the changes to FFP which are being mooted it would leave us in a great position.

Okay so I said most of this about 70 pages back but apparently about 40% of the forum still don’t get it.

Made me laugh out loud. Spot on mate

We turned down over £30m in the summer, we wanted £50m then and the market has gone batshit crazy and Mahrez is absolutely ripping it up, so valuations change.

The agreement is, is we get an offer we deem suitable we won't stand in your way.

What does this actually mean though? Isn't every transfer a case of a club not standing in the way of a player when they receive an acceptable bid?

Surely a gentlemans agreement suggests that they are willing to let him go, for lower than market value, as a thank you for his service/loyalty?
