Burnley (A) Post Match Thread

We utterly dominated for 70mins, played some sublime stuff, beautiful passing but we just didn’t find the final killer touch. Plenty of efforts that just seemed to find the wrong man at the wrong time, and we could and should have been out of sight by 70th min. Then we looked a bit leggy and Burnley got back in to the game. They’ll argue, correctly, that Ederson made 2 world class saves and therefore deserve their point. I disagree, but I can understand their case, we’d have made the same years ago. we’ve been unfortunate today, that’s all. Nobody played badly, everybody had a good game, and with a touch better finishing we’d have waltzed it.

I agree but we need to put more of the opportunities in the net, we will miss out in the Champions league unless we are more clinical in front of goal.

I was impressed that Burnley grafted so well for the full 90. They had a clear plan to stifle our build up by marking Fernandinho out of the match and it worked really well. Fair play to them as they risked and pressed forward unlike many team we have played and we had to work hard to get out of our own end. When we did, we had to punish them but we were incredibly wasteful.

It will be interesting to see how many more teams try this approach. We basically couldn't get the ball to the pivot to play the midfielders forward. Needed Company and Otamendi to split the lines and they mostly played tika taka all day. I love Vincent more than is healthy but I fear he may have played his last meaningful PL match for us, I doubt we will go without Laporte or Stones again.

couple of good chances but none clearer than sterlings. also ederson saved two obvious goals to keep us in, my motm would be him. sergio should have taken that shot when he was in a very good spot rather than sending it over to sterling. we have some TOUGH games coming up, arsenal twice would be most interesting imo, they always fucking show up in cup games and now even more with auba mkhi.

We have concentrated with the defence that much ( It needing doing) that our forward line is now the problem Obviously injuries have not helped. but the many chances missed today have cost us. However today was not a one off. we have dominated many games this season but we have just had the luck or sheer will to get out of jail. Not signing Sanchez has been debated fully. but you cannot help but think he would have a field day today Even so it is the second time it has happened that a much needed signing has gone tits up.questions must be asked why on each occasion we left it to the last knockings to do business

Shows what a season we are having when a 1-1 away to a very well organised Burnley feels like such a let down. Sterling should have sealed it for us but he's playing so well generally that we should forgive him that. He's top of the league by 13 points after all.

Kompany does not fit in for me.

Thing is, yes, in one sense Sterling cost us 2 points today. But he has saved us more.

Ederson saved a point today and cost us one v Liverpool.

This is always raw after the game in question but one game wins nothing. What they do over the season is what matters.

And you all know that we would not be 13 points clear with 12 games to go if it were not for Sterling and Ederson's performances over the season so far.

Its not only today that we have been wasteful, its has been happening for a while but the number of chances we create has somewhat hidden this. Its in tight games that we will feel it come the business end of the season.
Thought Walker was poor for their goal, he didn't seem to have a clue that there was anyone behind him

Weird game today, thought we actually played well and should have wrapped the game up long before they got back into it. Just one of those days, in the past games we've had someone we can bring off the bench to kill it but at the moment we're struggling to that end. I like Bernardo, but i just can't see it for him as a FW in our style of play. He doesn't run in behind and on the right side his only trick is to come inside. He either needs to be on the left so he can whip the ball in (like he did the other night) or he needs to be an 8. At the moment, we don't really have a choice tbf but personally i thought Zinchenko should have come on to the left and Sterling moved to the right.

Well another full game and at the start he headed everything going. Thought he did well. Why do you want to say he was shit?

I think the game showed that we moved on from him and he cannot keep up/does not suit this style anymore. He was a complete liability in that match as much as it pains me to say this.
