The chairman of the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) has told The Mirror he has spoken to Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane to explain a joke he made at his expense at the PFA Awards.

The newspaper reported that Ben Purkiss is under pressure from the PFA to issue a public apology to Kane, which he is refusing to do, and that his position could become untenable if he does not.

At Sunday's awards dinner in London, Swindon Town defender Purkiss joked that Kane "is able to score without touching the ball" -- a reference to the forward's decision to claim Spurs' second goal, originally credited to Christian Eriksen, in their win at Stoke.

The Mirror reported that Kane and his family were unhappy with the comment, which follows similar jokes by fans, ex-players and fellow professionals, but Purkiss stressed that he had complete respect for the England player.

Kane cant take a joke.

Jesus wept he's a soft ****. He swore on his childs life that he touched a ball in order to get a goal credited to him, with the only aim being to improve his chances of winning an entirely pointless individual award, now he's acting like he's the victim because people are taking the piss about what an incredibly selfish and ****ish thing that is to do. Can't believe the FA and PFA have actually apologised to the twat instead of telling him to grow a pair.

Imagine if one of our players got this upset every time something so trivial was written or said about them? Fucking hell

Fans of all clubs are absolutely going to give you shit when you try to take a goal from a teammate and even have the club appeal to the league to have it changed. If you're going to go out of your way to do all that, you should probably just keep quiet and laugh with the jokes. When you bitch and moan about what's being said about you then you just signed yourself up to receive even more of said shit.

Something's not right. I reckon they knew well in advance that the original estimate of £400/500 million was woefully inadequate for a project of this size. Now that it's too late to change they're suddenly saying: "Oh, it's going to cost us twice that amount now".

I must say Harry Kane is fast coming across as a bit of a self centred arse. His focus should be on helping improve the team however his mind seems fixated on personal goals... "Every striker in every country wants to win the Golden Boot. It is something I want to win. I want to win at everything I do, whether it's the Golden Boot or every game. Even if it is just playing a game with my mates - I want to win that. I am not afraid to say so.

'The most important thing is qualifying for the Champions League. Hopefully we can secure that and go from there."

That sounds lovely on the surface but comes across to me as someone whose first thought is himself. The golden boot should be a very nice bonus, not an aim imo. For example Salah will be relishing winning it of course. He also comes across as someone who wants to score and revel in the glory of the result, not himself, at least as a priority. I get the idea as soon as Kane scores he makes a mental note where he is on the golden boot table.

It is not a terrible thing by any means but it will raise eyebrows from some top managers like Pep. Who i would imagine wants players who are totally selfless in order to operate in the teams managers like Pep want.

Someone on here noted his pr team are having a nightmare recently and i find myself nodding at that assertion, the last month or so could have gone much better than it has for him. For a start he has labeled himself a bit of a marde bugger who can't take the banter which of course means he will get a lot more chucked at him due to that.

Qualifying for the CL isn't winning anything

The more you learn about this new stadium project the more doubts you have.

The old WHL was an atmospheric ground which needed more capacity but did Spurs really need to build a state of the art 1 billion pound stadium just to get 25,000 more seats?
This only gives you about 30m extra income per annum - about what you receive for qualifying for CL or put another way, about one fifth of the current TV deal for the top clubs.

They could have rebuilt the old WHL by creating bigger stands where they were.

Total investment would have been 250/300 m.
Gonna be some players on the move

If Arsenal and Liverpool win the Europa and Champions Leagues respectively, 4th place would miss out on next seasons Champions League.

That would be a hilarious way to get fucked with the stadium and players leaving.
