This philosophy cannot work if, as they have and lost many games to the bottom placed sides.

At the risk of sounding pedantic, a goalkeeper can’t win a game on his own, as a team has to score at least one goal to win a game.

Yes you have to score more thn the opposition to win, but look how many 1 goal wins they have and the number of great saves De Gea makes. He's turned so many losses into draws and draws into wins.
Without him they'd be at the level of Arsenal and Burnley.
