Interesting to note that the mighty Barcelona, who are invincibles this season, have scored seven fewer points than us, and fewer goals, by quite a margin (o.k, we’ve played 37, they’ve played 36). And that’s in the Spanish League, which is generally reputed to be an easier league, overall, than the PL.
As much as anything else, that puts the astonishing achievement of this team in perspective. We’ll win other trophies, very possibly the CL at some point, but I seriously doubt that I’ll live to see another season like this. I hope that blues are generally aware of that. I’ve almost had a feeling of some blues taking things for granted over the last couple of months, both in and out of the stadium. The Swansea, West Ham and Brighton games show Pep’s ability to motivate players who, by rights, should be on the beach. PSG lost their first home match to Rennes last night because they are, precisely, on the beach. It makes me think of what Bundini said about Ali before the fight with Foreman: “Their guy’s only human. My guy ain’t.”
Other managers are only human. Our guy ain’t.
One more push for the hundred points please, team. 100 – it just looks good, doesn’t it?
Oh and one other touch to put the cherry on my cake, although it doesn’t matter to me much, given what this season has been – Real to beat the dippers and shut them up about comparing their team to ours.
