I remember where I was..

Diana - Working on a Sunday which was a rarity on my way to do some measurements in Leeds at Sulzer Pumps.

9/11 - The morning we were flying home from Florida, knew nothing about it till we got to the perimeter of Orlando airport. To be told by a security guard that “America was under attack”. Ended up being in America for a further 5 days but really just wanted to get home.

7/7 - Working in London. First time I have ever been happy that my train was delayed or I would have possibly caught the Circle line train that was bombed near Liverpool Street. Stopped at a friends house in London that night.

Got a phone call at work from a mate on 9/11 to say have you seen what’s happening in New York? Caught up with it online and started to hear rumours about unidentified planes were being tracked on their way to uk cities

Then the PM on the job I was working started banging on about back to work need to get this and that done. All I could think was you stupid ****... we’re about to be attacked and WW3 is starting and all your bothered about is some shitty work project

Diana - Walked to the shop for a Sunday paper and saw an array of headlines. Due to different print times some mentioned the crash, some said Dodi died and I think just one said Di had died as well. - Got home and the TV was like a posh version of a Scouse grief-fest for several hours.

9/11 - Just going into a meeting (on 11/9 actually) and heard about the first plane. After the meeting they were discussing it and it took a while to realise there had been a second attack. Drove to Meadow Lane for the League Cup game with a couple of mates and listened to the whole saga unfolding.

Lesser 5-1 - In the Smithfield on Swan Street. Total dump with a collection of zombies as regulars but they had some great real ales and a good range of whiskey. - And if you were known to the bar staff you could get a lock in when there was late night boxing on.

Diana - got up with the new puppy we had a 7am, let her out, turned on the tv...shouted everyone else up.

9/11 first week at 6th form, tv in the common room had it on, saw the breaking news of the first one, but was in a german lesson when the second happened.

Diana.. I was 12 and had no idea who she was. I remember my mum being sad and crying in the morning.
9/11.. I think I got away from work early and saw it on the telly. Had zero appreciation of what was actually happening.
The 5-1.. Watched it at home again, but cant remember any strong feelings about it.

Was led on the beach in dominican rep when diana died thought my bruv-in-law was joking when he told me, just started 2-10 shift when 9-11 started

In bed when my mother in law, an 84 year old insomniac, phoned at about 6 am to tell me Diana had been killed.
I think I told her I couldn’t give a toss.

Twin towers was in a staff meeting at work

Can’t remember the England game.

And the night John Kennedy got shot I was at a Boys Brigade meeting getting bollocked for having a grubby webbing belt.

It was snowing in Manchester when we beat Germany 6-1 or 5-1 whatever was, wasn’t it? I remember playing football in it if I’m not mistaken as to the day.
There’s no way it was snowing anywhere in England. My brother got married that day, and it was a beautiful late summer’s day, albeit in Surrey. After the speeches they wheeled a tv out and we all watched the game. Brilliant day. I was a lot more bothered about England back then.

9/11 occurred a little over a week later.

You’d have thought they’d have let you have the day off school after such upsetting news. Especially with it being a Sunday as well.

I remember it clearly as a Sunday in the school holidays, which it was.
I went home ill from school on the Twin Towers day, watched neighbours, then there was breaking news. I think Champions League games went ahead that day as I watched at my cousin's

Really? God knows what I was doing out of bed then. I was getting ready for something.

I was working in London on 7/7. Don't recall the moment when I found out though. Unfortunately a girl from our office died on the bus. The thing that sticks in my mind was the amount of people on the pavement on the way home. Day of the pedestrian.

When the fuller picture of the attack on the twin towers started to emerge, we were just setting off to Nottingham for the League Cup tie with Notts County. After the match we sat for a while in a pub watching the horror of it all on the TV. One of those occasions when you reflect that in the scheme of things football isn’t that important - though that feeling only lasts a few minutes, if I’m being honest.

Was fishing off Anglesey when Diana died , Was at home watching sky news live on 911 . when battered germany was watching it in a bar in Luxor
