I remember where I was..

Diana, was working of Sunday morn, got up at half 4, turned TV on n got the news, woke the wife up n we both watched it on TV. Remember had radio on at work and all that was on was the sombre sound of bells ringing, eerie.
9/11, heard a( light) plane at that time, half 1, had crashed into tower. Got home from work (6-2) and watched story unfolds on Sky, meter reader came round bout half 2 and we both stood there watching it for seems likes hours together....

Diana,, In Barcelona on a family holiday , remember seeing on Spanish TV lots of pics of the Royal Family, didn't take any notice of what was being said, even newspapers we a day behind then Remember getting back to Luton Airport on the Wednesday, and getting in my car, drove home in total silence taking in what had happened.
9-11 I was a postman on over time collections, which was basically four hours of listening to the radio and getting paid. 14-07pm Simon Mayo (I think), says we've getting reports of an aircraft hitting the twin towers. Again another silent drive listening to the things unfold!!

At school when the news spread about utd plane crash. Fettling my motorbike on the drive when the Pope was shot. Same for 9/11, a neighbour shouted I should put the tele on, kept wondering how a plane could be so far off course, but the second one made it obvious it was not an accident. Was on the way home after a night-shift, called to buy a newspaper and a guy was explaining to the newsagent that it was obvious that Diana had been murdered because she was going to marry a muslim....thought they were discussing a film or a book.
Pre mobile phones and the internet and multi television channels, most people found out about events through the press whilst on the bus or train or over a bowl of cereal, the planes crashing in Stockport and Shadowmoss,
fell into that category, Pauldens burning down as well although it was obvious a massive fire was going on as ash was falling in south manchester. The bomb in Manchester is a blank , remember the picture of the postbox still standing amid the carnage but that's all. Was flying a model plane when the Cuban missile crisis was kicking off, mate of mine cycled to the field and said Cuba had declared war on America....
