I remember where I was..

When Diana died I’d been at a party at a mate’s house in Birmingham and someone woke me up on the couch to tell me the news.

For 9/11 I’d flown back from holiday in Majorca that morning and found out the news when I got home

Can remember both vividly, but can’t think of many other world events where I could remember exactly where I was when they happened.

He was actually talking about Christmas Day 1914 . :)

9/11 just finished work and got in as the news broke. Sat watching it thinking it was all unbelievable. Looked like a movie.

Diana? No idea.

Us spanking Germany, was back down South visiting the in-laws for a Birthday party and popped to the pub for a couple. Started to watch the game, a few old mates came in, one thing led to another, we spanked the Germans and I ended up in the local church yard at 1am wondering if I could retrieve my Dad from the ground, he's in an urn, and take him home. I ended up back at the in-laws at around 2.30am, locked out. I slept in the shed.

Diana- At home after being out clubbing and on an acid trip.

England 5-1 Germany- In a hospital in New Zealand after a Snowboarding fall. I broke a vertebra (T4).

9/11- Still off work due to the back injury, but back in Blighty, and at the pictures watching the Planet of the Apes film (which was shite). Didn't realise until we got home and the first tower had already gone...

Really? God knows what I was doing out of bed then. I was getting ready for something.
I’d been on the piss on the Saturday night. The phone rang at 8ish and my mum fetched it through to my room. A mate from work had rang to tell me Diana had died (or was on the brink). I can honestly say that at the time I couldn’t believe he’d woke me up to tell me something so inconsequential. Years later I understand the gravity but would still be pissed off to be awoken. I’ll find out when I’m up.

The first thing that I can still remember from my childhood was watching this news story about a massive fire at a building. I had been ill and had not gone to nursery school that day. I always thought that it was the Flixborough disaster but now think it was more likely the Summerland fire on the Isle of Man. My reason for this is that I remember my mum saying that someone at her work had gone there on holiday and that she hoped that they were ok. It is more likely that they would have gone on holiday to the Isle of Man than to the Flixborough Chemical Plant.

I was on guard duty when Diana died they were running round like mad men to find 8 sober raf regiment guys to carry the coffin from the plane, they’d all been on a bender that weekend as it was a bank holiday.
9/11 I was in work and once the first one hit I found a tv to watch the rest, truly shocking day they thought 10000 wrrr in the towers half an hour later there would have been.

Dianas death got in from an all day session, was workognaway and shared accomodation with a cockney, geordie and lad from reading way, cockney was in tears, other sothern lad was upset, I shrugged and was not arsed, gerodie cracked a bottle open and said fuck the tart, an argumemt then kicked off.

9/11 was working the hotel gardener told me and said it was specially bad because it was america as I crossed over from one kichen to another, think my actual words back were, people get blown up all the time, way of the world because it's the yanks doesn't make it more important
Got in the kitchen saw the footage.

Boxing day 2004 was sat at me mam and dads when the tsuami hit the indian ocean, I was flying out to Thailand that evening and the news was full of news of Thai south coast getting battered and indonesia underwater, wasn't sure what it was going to be like arriving next day.

More importantly where I was in 96, working at the britannia hotel portland st, when the alarms went off and we were evacuated down oxford rd, ended up in the flea and ferkin and then near MRI trying to get info as to what was going on.

Twin Towers...was at work just off the the airport, was running a chauffeur business at Atlas house at the end of the runway. Had all the screens up when it came through. Thought it was a film, then I realised what had happened and the shit that would follow...all hell broke loose.

Dianas death or rather the mourning. Was on Salford Quays and it was eerily silent.

City winning the league at the last minute over utd....was living up a mountain in Spain and wifey was walking the dogs. We worked it out that she could hear me over 2 miles away.

Diana on the way to Blackpool to see a show, everything cancelled ruined my plans to woo Mrs Moon but she's still with me.

9/11 been in an all day meeting about how investigation of benefit fraud was going to be changing totally by making use of non-jobbers. It never recovered and I escaped about 4 years ago.

Diana - My mum woke me about it.

9/11 - It broke when I was at work but the severity of what had happened was not clear until I got in and my housemates were watching it on the telly.

In Toronto when Diana died, just got in from a bar or club and was on tv.

9/11 was at work in San Mateo CA at 6am, followed on internet for first hour until the web ground to a halt. Several hours later watched several inbound Asian based 747 land at SFO flanked by F15s

Lockerbie was sat in the Khandoker on Kingsway around 1am, they had the radio on. I was so pissed I couldn’t really comprehend what was going on.

First thing I knew something major was happening in New York was that the internet at work broke, it couldn't cope with everyone trying to view the videos off BBC etc.. The management put TVs in the kitchens so those who wanted to see what was going on could do so without impacting the network. Horrible day.

Heard about Diana the morning after a family do. Thought they were talking about Princess Anne at first.

Dunblane's the one that really shocked me. Also the Space Shuttle because relatives saw it happening, saw that first on John Craven's Newsround.

9/11 Second day at my new job at Manchester airport. Saw stills on a screen and when the second hit, holy shit!

Diana, still don't give a shit.
