See, this was my understanding too. But if VAR have told the ref Boateng has possibly caught the Swedish player twice (push/grab and leg trip) the ref surely can't then refuse to look at it from the pitch. He must accept the VAR team has multiple slow motion replays and he must take a look if they recommend him too?

Well VAR need shooting if true. It was 2 penalties, grab/push and trip! There needs to be challenges to avoid incidents like this.
