Media persecution of Raheem Sterling

Like I’ve said, I think Sterling is good!

What I’m trying to do is get people to wake up to the fact the media’s opinion doesn’t matter (and it really REALLY doesn’t). It’s like all religion; it’s a load of bollocks and the sooner the world moves on from religion and gutter media, ignore every single facet of both, the world will be a better place.

If the BBC are this morning still going with the Sterling/Rashford debate, our fanbase should be paying it as much attention as we are that daft religion programme with Nicky Campbell where they’ll be talking about whether we should believe the story about the burning bush. It’s fucking pointless. The only thing that matters is what goes on on the pitch, not what some random media company want to spark up a dullard’s debate about.

You have to start somewhere...

I think threads like this give the gutter press a platform to aim to get their stories posted on. Each and every one of them will monitor this thread. It draws attention to their stories. Which is exactly what they want and is exactly why it should be ignored. It’s like a child or a dog, if they’re annoying you and you ignore them, they stop, if you bite to their attention seeking they carry on. And on and on and on... because they know they’ve got you.
Spot on !! And you gutter snipe press who come on this site and read what's being said.. GET F**KED YOU VILE LYING PARASITIC C**TS!!

Why does Sterling get booed at the majority of the grounds? Was it nowt. To do with the media? Agree on the pitch it shouldn’t effect anything what the media says but sterling being victimised stinks.

Gotta disagree, and you mention exactly why. Go in any pub and either start or listen to a conversation about England and i guarantee some 'dullard' will join in with a negative shot at Sterling. Surprisingly, but not by accident, most non dullards will agree and join in. I have witnessed this every day this week (i like a drink!). Now where do these non-football following 'dullards' get their opinions on Sterling? It's certainly not from credible football media as they don't read it, but every day they will see the gutter press ripping Sterling apart. Coincidence? I think not.

As for your first paragraph, i couldn't agree more but that's a world that's never gonna happen unfortunately.

I have played golf with 3 guys this morning, all three wanted Rashford in Sterling out. They support Midland teams. They were only casual football fans. How if I ignore the media will it affect those 3. They will still get their opinion directly from the media.
I know you mean well but making people more aware of the false information that comes our way is maybe a better path to follow.

Perhaps ask them why they think that. I can only imagine what kind of garbage would come out of their mouths.

I do ask . The answer is the same as comes out of the mouth of millions, who have their reality constructed by the media.

Not rating Sterling for England isn’t false information. You only need to have a pair of working eyes. The way randomers pick out Sterling first when criticising anyone in and England discussion is the bit that’s media driven.

I already know you would pick Rashford over Sterling. You have told everyone enough times.
This thread is about Media. That they have made it about one over the other.

You still have not identified the post you were replying to when saying that you celebrated Sterling's sub like a goal... You were asked several times.. have you forgotten ?

I think I already explained whether we react to it or not the media will continue to persecute Sterling regardless because we aren't their audience as someone mentioned it's mainly rival fans and casual football fans who happily base their knowledge from what the press feed them(when it suits them). It REALLY does matter if it affects our players, when we hear Sterling sometimes avoids going outside altogether to avoid the negativity they generate, I don't know how you can argue with that. You are entitled to your view but I disagree that it doesn't matter and I disagree that ignoring it and it will go away is the best option(that wont work).

I believe these hacks would like nothing more for the stick and ridicule we give them to cease, if you think they like hearing so many people for instance say things like: "Don't read the sun, it's trash journalism, the paper is not fit to wipe your ass with and the website is even worse" all while pointing out exactly why their latest article on Sterling is absolute horse shite to drive the point home then you're misguided. They know the power of influence and it's basically their own game being used against them.

In your pursuit of being "too cool" to care about this you're seemingly falling into the trap of getting too worked up about people who do want to address it(judging by your increasing number of inflammatory comments towards them), which perhaps makes you far more of a "dullard" at the end of the day. ;)

I find this a defeatest attitide, so you are saying let him get shite from scumbag journos, but if we don't slag them off or suppprt sterling they will stop because we ain't clicking.

Their shite articles are not aimed at us berts but the wider public, it is irrelevant if we click or read their shite, but we have a duty to support our player.

Ignore them they might go away doesn't cut it in this instance

Also nicky campbells the big question is a alright after listening to tossers on marr

My working eyes told me Rashford was a waste of a shirt, and my working ears told me the commentators tried to make him sound half decent, which he wasn't. All we are asking for is fair treatment.

The one thing that media are unlikely to be is fair.

Absolutely agree, sadly it isn't happening any time soon is it. To try and make people realise who see no wrong in Sterling, the way the commentators let Rashford off the hook (which seemingly many didn't want him to be) is the exact same as many on here who defend Sterling after being shite for England. It was Rashfords chance to live up to the Sterling/Rashford who should play debate and he failed. I don't think you will see many moaning when Sterling starts tomorrow but bluemoon will be in full swing of people making up stories of Joe Bloggs in the boozer saying Sterling shouldn't start.

Is it Sterling or is it City ie, would he still get flak for leaving the dippers had say, he went to the chavs, or evn tne rags?

I believe it's Sterling, he was getting shit from some elements of the media before he left Liverpool, the hippy crack saga was completly blown out of proportion. The rumours about how many kids he had etc.

No doubt the treatment got much worse when the Liverpool aoologists in the media joined the dissenting voices but it was always there to some extent.

Sterling is in personality more like Messi than Ronaldo.

He can go missing if things are not going for him and seems to lack a bit of self confidence.

I would not mind him being left out for Rashford as that would mean he got more rest before the start of next season.

By the way I think Rashford is a hit and miss player, and certainly lacks Sterling's turn of speed and close control.

Tom once again you fail to understand this thread once again I will try to explain this to you. This thread It is not about individual performances in individual games there is a player thread for that. This thread is about how many City fans feel that Sterling is treated less favourably by the media than many of his colleagues.

Even you yourself seem to have grasped Sterling would not have been, your words, "let off the hook" like Rashford. Why do you think they treated Sterling differently? Is it one plays for United one for City? Is it one has left Liverpool?

Just as an aside I do not think many, if any, City supporters think Sterling cannot to do any wrong and many are quick to call him shite the issue is when others are equally shite they are not being called

What was being pointed out was that Sterlings performances were being singled out as being particularly poor by both TV pundits and paper journalists when there were examples of other players playing equally poorly of in many cases worse but those players were not being taken to task in the same way. So much criticism was levelled at Sterling that the only debate between matches was whether Rashford or Sterling should start

Now if Sterling had performed like Rashford did in the last game he would have been lambasted for his poor performance but there was no lambasting of Rashford but at least his poor performance has quieted the debate for this match. I did listen to Talksport where one pundit said the only change might be Sterling for Rashford but the general clamour has ceased for this game but if England win and Sterling does not score I am sure that clamour will start again

It seems to me with certain players the less they do the more they are thought of whereas with Sterling no matter what he does he is not highly thought of an example of which is he was voted Englands worst player in the 2 matches he has played

I understand the thread, does it need 280 pages of everyone agreeing the media treat him differently? Erm no so it may as well be pulled then. No one knows the reasons and it isn't changing anytime soon so what is the point? Rashford did get criticised. Most notably by Shearer who was in favour of him having a chance ahead of Sterling, that wasn't received well in here because apparently Shearer said it in a certain tone. Crazy talk. Sterling would have got more granted.

So you acknowledge he is treated differently but everyone doesnt know it. You cheered when he was substituted did you cheer when other players were taken off because they were poor?

Others on this thread have said we should ignore the persecution and it will go away that is bollocks. If people feel they can get away with things in the media more and more liberties will be taken until we end up with a Millie Downer situation where the media were acting as if they are above the law. Many in the sports media seem to think they are important as the players and managers and it is right that where there is injustice a light is shone as change will not occur by hiding it in the dark

Sterling just being on the pitch scares the hell out of opposition.

He gets criticised for losing the ball too often yet Neymar loses it more. He will take so much attention just being there & he works tirelessly covering the defence.

Not everyone sees it but I bet the opposition does. He needs to score more, that’s an opportunity to become one of top players in the world, it’s the only thing stopping him from being that good yet we hear it’s the reason he is shit.
