Media persecution of Raheem Sterling

Good point but his silence meant more to me than upsetting my wife who supports United.
I have to be very careful how I tread but Leeds supporter surely you have to blame the parents.
My late wife came from a family of rags, but I saw it as missionary work to convert her. When she died 8 years ago she was a true blue, so job done.

The wonderful thing about a world cup is that it gets the whole country together watching. However half of them know f*ck all about the game.
I wouldn’t expect my mum to have a clue about his qualities, so I’m not holding my breath for the halfwitted english public.
Pundits and media write ups are very positive (finally)
I wouldn't watch an England game with the cretinous fans. Most of them are brainwashed half-wits.

Gary Neville: "To run in-behind Granqvist all that time, he kept getting in and getting in. OK, we didn't have the cherry on the cake, the goal, where all of a sudden you're a hero, but it was a brilliant performance."

Gary Neville on ITV: "The actual treatment at half-time of [Sterling] across social media was absolutely disgusting, and isn't representative of the performance he put in."

I was arguing on FB last night with some rag twat who was spouting he was shit....one attack he put was Stones even said he was poor ! I said so did Stones say he was shit and should be dropped. He replied dont know ask Stones

Fucking imbeciles the lot if them

liverpoo fan on the train yesterday referred to sterling as judas, and wanted raggy rashford to start in front of him. Odd considering that the dippers on here tell us ad nauseum that they didn't care that he left because he wasn't that good anyway, but sums up why the media hacks had it in for him.

however, in some small corners at least it does feel like he's becoming the plucky underdog soldiering on as England progress, a world cup winning goal would help that narrative..

The hatchet job on Raheem is well and truly cemented now in this country, and there is nothing that can be done about it -that is the sorry state that is evident in certain (majority) of so-called pundits both involved in the newspapers and by social media pundits

Glaring basic facts are being missed because they want to portary him as the evil of football. Take last nights game as just an example. Sterling was THE only player making any sort of intelligent run to pull defenders out of position. He was doing this all game. Dont let the fact that the midfield couldn't complete a single through ball for either him or Kane get in the way of the hate towards him though.

Alli was totally missing from last night's game, missing a gilted chance. And lets not forget that once Raheem went off, the movement up front became non-existant just like the midfield movement had been all game

I cannot for whatever reason get behind this team, I am fully behind Sterling and Stones as my loyalty is with our club and I just want them to perform well. It never used to be like that for me, but this world cup has shocked me in the abuse that he has to put up with when there are players on that pitch that offer fucking nothing

After watching yesterdays game in the pub i can only agree with your first para'.

The first abuse i heard aimed at Sterling was when the line-ups came on. Some dolled up tart who's never been to a match in her life squealing about how shit he is. A ball hadn't been kicked yet. During the game you could hear and feel the hatred every time he touched the ball. Bizzarely for a pub in Manchester a couple of scousers were leading the crowd with their calls to 'get him off' after ten minutes. I tried to back Sterling, using logic and reasoning and even pointing out things on the telly but to no avail.
After 45 minutes of this shit i was angry (the bloke telling me i wasn't English cos i didn't sing the anthem didn't help) so went out for a half time smoke. The mob outside could talk of nothing else but how shit he'd been and i eventually snapped and gave them all a gobfull. Pointing out to them that a young lad had just run his heart out for England, our actual striker who's there to score goals hadn't touched the fucking ball, and that despite belting out the anthem they were un-patriotic by abusing England players shut most of the fuckers up. Went back in and gave the fuckin plastic mickeys both barrells. England supporters my fucking arse.

This sums up perfectly why I:
a) no longer watch England games in a pub
b) find it very difficult to join such morons in getting behind the England team

It’s just all very sad now. It’s become a national scale bullying campaign like no other, against a young lad who’s had a very hard upbringing to make himself one of the countries best footballers. It’s staggering how mentally strong he is. If he wasn’t, god knows what would happen. Imagine millions of people slagging you off day in day out for no reason.

England fans don’t actually watch him play now. The second he gets it, just abuse hurled at the screen. Even when top pundits, experts and the England management give him nothing but praise, the masses just ignore it.

Pathetic.

Not bothered watching any games in the pubs because of that reason....i would see red mist. Watched at home and with family, who are united fans but remarkebly understand football. Yes Raz isnt putting the ball in the net, but what he is bringing to the team with his movement etc is the best. He is making alli, lingaard look like trees. He is creating space which helps Kane’s game. But the fact of the matter is that these 3 fuckers are selfish

Seem to remember when raz went off and rashford came on, england went to shit

I'm primed full of "fuck offs" for these c~nts which is why I can't watch it in a pub. I'm out to a bbq this afternoon so I'll probably have to loose a few off there instead.

Yep...in all honesty i would rather he played for Jamaica where he would be appreciated by the nation

They all need a scapegoat and thanks to the fucking media, our thick fucking ****ing England fans, have made our raz public enemy number one.

I had an argument with two blokes yesterday, about the abuse they were giving him.

Wankers.
It's a bit unusual though because you'd think people would only need a scapegoat if England were losing. I think it shows a huge change in society as a whole that this is happening during such a successful tournament for England.

I started off with 'Oh come on's' and ended up spraying 'Wankers' around like machine gun fire. Will be back in there this affy to survey the damage.

Its a full blown hate campaign, and to be honest he will be seeing it all via his phone. If th3 so called england fans want him dropped I would call their bluff now because i would be fed up of it all. Let southgate play whoever the fuck he wants and watch the movement become stagnant upfront and england struggle

Lingaard wont pass to him, because i reckon the fucking halfwit wants his pal rashford on the pitch with him - thats how deep this goes imo.

The vitriol that is evident regardless of what is happening infront of their eyes on the tv is shocking. It is a pack mentallity, scenario example: same in this pub are saying sterling is shit, hmmmm well he must be shit. I want to fit in and be part of something, i know i will start shouting it myself.

I hate the kind of brain dead white van ****s who come out of the woodwork for England games, & then you get all the fucking students & champagne socialist Tarquin **** types who have never seen a fucking game, suddenly becoming World's Biggest Fan. When both join in the same cause, I feel like dropping napalm on it.

So I stay clear.

I will be watching the semi, in Norway, which has a large contingent of utter wanker, bitter & deluded Liverpool fans (worse than the rags).

Should be interesting.

Yep. As I said yesterday, I'd be quite happy to see rashford to start in Wednesday and England get shat on. Would be exactly what the great English public deserve.

It's definitely turned away from a media thing and into a fan thing. Sterling's performance yesterday was generally well received by the pundits and by the media but your average England fan isn't having it. After vowing to keep away from it, I still spent last night defending his corner, tbf, they're mostly Man U supporting Rashford fan boys, but their lack of understanding of the game and, even worse, lack of support for England does my head in.

Good to see that more and more are popping up praising him for everything he's doing. I'm not Lineker's biggest fan but he is one of the most prominent figures in British football and him pushing out some support and praise for Sterling to his 7 million followers will change a few minds.

I even popped onto a United forum and found a comment chain full of praise for him, slapping down someone who said he was shit. Twitter seems to be full of people sticking up for him too.

I feel the tide is starting to turn. It's definitely happened regarding the tabloids to the point that the general public just seem to be sick of an anti-sterling story and reject it on principle, and if he were to finally get his goal on wednesday (or the final if it arrives) then he could find that the boo boys disappear and the story of his tournament becomes a really positive one.

Lineker seems quite happy to make a stand on this. I think he knows that his support carries a fair amount of weight.

It possibly stems from him being no friend of the more abusive sources - Sun, Mail, etc.

My ex brother in law is mouthing off on FB that Sterling is off form and should be dropped lol. Don’t know what they expect from the lad. He’s not off form, sick of telling him .
