Media persecution of Raheem Sterling

Yep. As I said yesterday, I'd be quite happy to see rashford to start in Wednesday and England get shat on. Would be exactly what the great English public deserve.

Nail on the fucking head.....would be sweet poetry. I actually would want that to happen. Will probably come in for some critiscism for saying that but i dont care. I would laugh my fucking socks off if it went that way if we dropped him.

Only way it will turn around is for him to be dropped the team without him look shit and under pressure then he comes on with 20 mins to go scores a goal to win the game!

In the 1990s it was United fans who used to get very frustrated about how the media were so anti-United and pro-Liverpool. The hate campaign aimed at David Beckham after the 1998 World Cup epitomised that. But Beckham used it to drive him forward and he became England captain and he ended up having a hand in changing the media’s view and output on United.

Could Raheem be in a similar situation and could he be the one who changes the media’s view and output on City by becoming a hero for England? Imagine what a World Cup semi final winning goal could do for him, for us and for the whole country’s view...

It didn’t take long to change hanging effigies of Beckham to having him viewed as a national bloody treasure. Never mind any of this “let’s hope Rashford gets picked and England fail” stuff, let’s hope Raz gets a screamer of a winner on Wednesday night and really shove it up the noses of every gutter journo and mouthbreathing fan around the country.

It must be said, his two performances in the knock-outs so far have had a lot of praise from ex-players. Imagine a winner on Wednesday...

I agree regardless of my earlier comment - just would laugh if we dropped him and it went tits up.

However imagine if Raz scored the most important goal when it mattered (if we get there)

Exactly....its quite poor imo that southgate hasnt verbally stuck up for him in a presser, probably wouldnt want to isolate himself though. It allwent to shit when he got subbed for rashford remember

But lets give the mass idiots what they want and see how it pans out. The movement from the midfield to kane without him in the team is non-existant

Anyway i am off out in a bit with the family to walk down the beach and watch the air show. Have a great day and remember look up and see the sky blue above - and that all the rags and dippers are below it : )

Sterling got the lowest ranking on team performance on BBC website

YCMIU

Only on the ‘popular vote‘, which is meaningless, because we know that it’s millions of Liverpool and United ‘fans‘ voting. What’s stranger, in my opinion, is that he gets the same ranking by the BBC itself as Kane and Dele Alli. Kane did nothing of note, Alli scored a goal that was put on a plate for him, but did very little else. All that people can see, sometimes, is that Raz misses goals he should score (I actually don’t even think he’s at fault for not scoring yesterday, the keeper did well, and made the angle difficult. If Raz was at fault, it was in not squaring it to two players who were better placed than him. But that’s by the by…)

It was a shame he didn’t convert that chance (which was a lot harder than some realise), his all round play deserved it. If he did have composure in front of goal, he’d be truly world class, the situations he gets himself in.

Thought Lineker and Ferdinand were spot on at half time though, he’s a players player (the subtext being he’s a “anyone that knows a modicum about football” player...).

This was my Facebook response post to all the shite I saw posted.

Going cheap any takers. It’s a thimble for all you Sterling haters to piss your footy knowledge into. Also got a fucking stamp if you want to write your footy expertise on.

Just asked a visitor from New Zealand who was the best England player yesterday, her immediate response was ' not sterling'. What a strange answer to the question and speaks volumes.

It's a bit unusual though because you'd think people would only need a scapegoat if England were losing. I think it shows a huge change in society as a whole that this is happening during such a successful tournament for England.
Good point LF.
What caused this change I wonder admittedly football is a bit tribal so if people are fed fake news they are likely to agree with then the media profit from it.
World Cup is currently in the news for those who do not normally follow it so maybe trending with anti RS stuff covers their ignorance.
Really is a worry that for some reason sticks with RS rather than the manager who selects him.

I know it's contrary to the thread title but there's a great appreciation of Raheem's contribution in today's Sunday Times, by Matt Dickinson

Just seen a rag posting most least liked england player on facebook.lots of bitter reds and scousers slagging sterling of saying hes greedy and just plain crap .i posted underneath you lot are an embarassament singling out individuals.there reply was" its a joke"i replied" to who i dont find it funny".sad barstewards!

on talksport this morning cas and the lass was both saying it was unfair on sterling all this on media, and the lass said she didn't care less if sterling didn't score but to keep running at the other team

Call him out on it and ask for clarity on what he means by off-form...
He says that “others” probably fucking rashford, because he’s a rag, could add goals. So he’s saying he offers nothing if he can’t get the goal.
I’ve told the fucking idiot that Southgate wants the movement, the runs, the passing, the work rate. But he and his army of Raggy mates think if he’s not scoring he must me shit

I think there has been a significant shift from the media this week-the sheep will follow.
