I have a laptop and the I have been told the hard drive is knackered and the only way to recover the data is through a specialist. Does anyone know roughly how much it would cost and also anywhere that can sort it in the Manchester area? I have taken it to the usual PC Repair replaces but they say they don't have the capability to do it.

Defo thousands pal.about 4 years of family pics on the drive with no back up.... so cost is not that important, what does it cost to reassemble, just after a rough cost do you think we are talking hundreds or thousands of pounds ?
I don't know exactly, if it was just dead you'd probably be looking at around £20 per 16GB but the fact that you've already been turned away at a few places means it's probably a forensic job so could be a lot more.
