Miralem Pjanic.

We have upgraded our squad from last year with Mahrez. Add to that Mendy returning and freeing up Delph to cover at times in midfield then I think we are in a lot better position. What will dictate our season isn’t signing another world class player, but for me it’s how the players we do have approach the season on the back of last season and the World Cup. We keep the level of intensity and team spirit and it will be extremely difficult for anyone to get close to us.
I agree completely, however we’ve only spent £60mil (not taking into account outgoings) and consequently it’s pretty obvious that hypothetically upgrading the squad by shifting out Zinchenko and replacing him with Pjanic or Kovacic would make complete sense - even if it was Pjanic at circa £80mil I’d guesstimate that our nett spend would be in the region of £80mil for the window which is fuck all.

Pjanic is the type of player we need when teams press as well. He has good 1 touch passing, but can also play through balls that will cut through a press. This is what I think we were hoping for with Jorginho. Pjanic has excellent vision to spot a though ball. We all love Fern, but he does lack in this department.
Agreed, Pjanic would be great in that spot, as Jorginho would have been. I can see why Pep might like Kovacic in that spot too. But I guess we are waiting to buy the Fernaninho replacement, a true 6 for the future. Do we think Claudio Gomes is a 6?

Really?......everyone said the same about Dinho when he first played there after he had a nightmare of a World Cup in Brazil

Kante would give us energy in that position and we'd be quicker in transition at turning the ball over and attacking from the back, we also wouldn't be as vulnerable to the counter attack with Kante.

It's wont happen anyway but always healthy to debate

There's a reason Sarri just bought Jorginho to play next to Kante instead of just using Kante in that pivot position.

He's great, but he's not that player.

He's considered very similar in style and ability to Verratti,so yes.

Fatigue is part of game but that doesn't mean we stack our squad with 3 options for each place,no team ever does that.
For 3 positions,we have Mahrez Sane Sterling Bernardo Jesus Kun and then we have Gundogan Fernandinho KDB Silva and Delph for 6 and 8s.
If people still need an attacking option who won't even make it to bench then I can't help
We have 2 position... Right wing Sterling/Mahrez & Left Wing Sane. 2 players for 2 positions gives us 22 players from a permitted 25 meaning we have 3 places for youngsters/utility players.

That's a balanced squad. It's just dimple maths & has been our stated aim for the last 10 years.

I think @Dribble is just getting a tad overexcited.

I get that in an ideal world we would strengthen further, however it’s just not realistic in a WC summer with only 18 days left of the window.

I’d happily get shut of Bravo, get an English keeper, which frees up an overseas slot. Sell Gündogan to Barca for £50mil and upgrade him with a better player etc etc

Just isn’t going to happen.

I do think though we will get a central midfielder, and I think it’ll be a huge mistake if we don’t.
How am I getting over excited mate? It's a forum & I've stated my opinion of what I'd do. Where's the over excitement?

Are you saying there is absolutely no way on planet earth that Manchester City Football Club could not afford to bring in a world class player for RW, CM & CDM, & trim our squad where necessary to make this happen?

If you can't connect the dots & see how this can happen, then that's a lack of vision on your part & not Dribble getting over excited.

Sterling, Mahrez, Bernardo & Jesus could all play on the left if needed as could David Silva.

Comical mate that you’ve decided to omit/ignore Bernardo, who played all last season out wide. Whether he’s a future replacement for Merlin is irrelevant.

But we do have cover for those positions. So we are not sitting back, we have effectively replaced an ageing mascot with a Premier League player of the year at his peak. He is cover for some of the positions you are mentioning. As is Bernardo Silva, who was the best player on the pitch in Portugal's last match. We have Mendy, another extra player who wasn't available last season, Jesus, who missed half the season injured & again, can play in Sanés position, & a fully fit Gundogan, plus several kids to take the weight off for the lesser competitions.

We will have to replace Fernandinho at some point but Jorginho wasn't that anyway, he is a completely different kind of player. So we have ONE position we could ideally strengthen in this window, not a load of positions. The squad is amazing & much stronger than last season.
I absolutely disagree. If our squad was that great we'd have done the quad last season. I can see plenty of room for improvement, & I sfopt the position of getting the players in & allow them to prove themselves.

We tried this with Patrick Roberts & he wanted the easier ride of a dominant Celtic. Can you imagine City going for a player of such weak mentality that he's not prepared to battle for his place?

Even if one player maybe preferred above another in the very biggest matches, that doesn't mean a very good player won't get 40 games a season just as in the case of Bernardo, Gundog & Danilo. We can't keep rinsing our players out & personally I have no time for weak minded individuals who aren't confident enough in their abilities to compete against the rest of the squad.

Christ man, you’re being an arse now. Who do you think we should get rid of from the squad then? And do you think we can do it in 18 days?

Ederson 1
Bravo 2

Walker
Danilo 3
Kompany 4
Stones
Laporte 5
Otamendi 6
Delph
Mendy 7

Fernandinho 8
Gundogan 9
De Bruyne 10
Silva 11
Foden

Bernardo 12
Sterling
Sane 13
Mahrez 14
Diaz

Aguero 15
Jesus 16

By leaving out Zinchenko it leaves room for the central midfielder.

If you are worried we might not have a strong enough squad to win the quadruple there is no reasoning with you.

You do know ffp is still,a thing ? Even if it wasn't, do our owners want to keep pouring money in ?

This is the point I'm making. Jesus is our forward alongside Sergio. I'm sure any player in our squad could play anywhere if asked. I mean we even told David James to play as a striker once, but why not buy specialist players to fill specialist spots.

If we had 2 for each position, that's only 22 players. This is more to do with squad sculpting over the last few seasons more than an unbalanced squad by design.

We've stated for years 2 world class players for each spot was our ultimate squad goal. If it wasn't we'd forget specialist players & be looking for the likes of Phil Neville & Clayton Blackmore when at ManUre.

Thowing in “quad” like it’s easy how many team have done it.

We can’t talk about the quadruple as it’s virtually impossible to win. A defence of the title and a serious crack at the champions league will be the order for this season. I think Liverpool are gonna run us close this season and just maybe a kovacic of pjanic could be the diff between us and Liverpool

Always providing other clubs are interested in what we want to sell, and, more importantly, pay us a fair price for it, Yes

Sadly there lies the snag (the opposite being more often the case with us)
