I seem to remember reading an article that Leicester were happy to let us sign Mahrez because they were going to build their team around Maguire. Not yet, but they are having a free run at Maguire at the moment. They will pay over the odds for him as Jose has been complaining a lot.
I think that's very apparent.
The man,due to his personality/character,has a shelf life, and it looks like it will be expiring very soon. He's similar to Mancini in that respect.
So you pay double the transfer value, bung the agents a fortune & double the wages for Lukaku, Pogba & Sanchez, then complain about lack of players coming in ?
He's right about Valencia though (& one or two others). I was laughing at the state of him the other day. Looked like Bob Taylor.
Hopefully that is a good indication of the players' mindset for the coming season, under Mourinho.
Sadly won't last long, shame we can't have a season where we dominate and the rags and dippers both implode.
Oh dear:
Red Devils’ pre-season tour is bordering on a shambles with boss at loggerheads with Ed Woodward over transfers
By Neil Custis
Including: ' privately chuntering on about penny pinching over big signings this summer as they try and fail to land Harry Maguire — but he should not.
Because ‘penny pincher’ Woodward has got £600million out of the owners in the last four years.'
And: ' It is pointed that a planned meeting between the media and Woodward has now been cancelled.
Likewise, the usual half-hour sit-down chat with the manager.
Those of us who follow this club all over the world have also been canned — with Mourinho claiming he does not get enough support from the writers.
He gets plenty, not least from myself. Cultivating enemies and creating a ‘them and us’ environment is not the way to go.'
Oh dear.

I think you are right re Woodward. He is a commercial success and that suits the owners. We've been saying that since Moyes.
Realistically, if Mourinho goes before the start of next season and they get a competent Woodward replacement, it's going to take a couple of years to rebuild the squad and mount a title challenge anyway.
If Woodward stays, and it seems like he's bulletproof, they'll always be hamstrung.

I think managers are now being treated like players ie useful for shirt sales but their influence stays at team level.

I know nothing about the Dallas Cowboys but that interesting. It's absolutely all about their commercial success. The most valuable sports team in the world is the Dallas Cowboys and they haven't won the Super Bowl or even their Conference since 95...
