No issues with him wanting to stay and fight.

If, as rumoured, he has decided against leaving, despite being told he is not likely to play much, I can't really blame him; especially if he is backing himself to force himself back into the reckoning. He is young enough to take that chance and City is probably a great place to be right now.

I reckon Kevchenko (as I've just seen him referred to on Twitter) can do a job in the DM role but he may be one of about six options to sub for Dinho so it will be a battle for game time.

Pep always said that we wants player that are fully commited. Now he's got one and more than that.

Bring on the new season.

Although he did some good work for us last season, I was never fully convinced by him, and going forwards I don’t think he’s good enough to break into our best XI. I think he’s made a mistake by not taking this move. Puts me in mind of the way Ben Mee has carved out a really successful career at Burnley - think he could/should have gone & done similar

If we don't sign anyone, which is likely anyway, then fair fucks to the lad as he can just about be the 17th foreigner in the squad.

That means that there won't be a place for Mangala though. :)

Delph was different. Many of us on here saw his potential at LB before Pep even tried him there.

Zinchenko is not an LB. Offers nothing going forward and is not a good defender. He is good in keeping possession but it’s not enough. Mendy first choice, Delph second and Zinchenko/Danilo 3rd. Mendy is the attacking LB, Delph is the defensively solid LB and Zin is niether.

Shocking decision by him to stay. He’s even behind Foden in the long line to play central midfield and many fear for Phil’s playing time. I understand the ambition to stay but sometimes you have to be realistic, he is still young, go to Wolves and prove yourself, and after a season or two, he may be bought back or get a move to another big club.

Looks like he likes his comfort zone here and wants to sit on the stands. Didn't even make the squad for CS
Bit harsh.

Young, hungry player who's already played several times for us. Great attitude, versatile, good technique and clever on the ball.

Potentially 7th choice midfielder meaning one injury puts him in the B team. Could get 30 games easy.

At least he wants to stay for footballing reasons. Far too often we have seen players refusing to leave because they don't want to give up their fat, City paycheck.

All that palaver earlier about Manchester weather and the lure of the Mediterranean. Wouldn’t take long in Wolverhampton to appreciate what he has. :-)

Fighting for your place is an admirable notion, but when you don’t actually have a place for which to fight, it does seem a rather futile gesture. That said, sticking around served him well last year, so perhaps he will find game time this year, too.

Come on now. In what world he is going to get enough game time to develop? Foden, Diaz ahead of him in AM, Douglas Luiz if he gets his permit ahead of him in DM, Gundogan as well, maybe even Stones. Delph, Danilo and Laporte ahead of him in LB cover. Its impossible for him to game time basically unless major injury crisis happens.

Nothing against the kid but in terms of his career, he has made terrible decision. He wants to fight for a place despite having no place to fight for. Interesting concept. Reeks of comfort zone to me.

Footballing reasons??

Sorry but even near the end of last season without Mendy fully fit he went about 7 weeks without even making the bench.

Now Mendy is fit. He is 3rd choice LB maybe 4th, and something like 7th choice midfield.

He won’t be making the squad in any PL or CL match unless we have 3 players injured. He may make bench in the league cup or FA cup.

Wouldn’t call that staying for footballing reasons. Quite the opposite actually.

I'm not convinced Diaz is ahead of him in the CM spot. Luiz might not get a permit (I thought his space in the squad was dependent on Zinchenko going? Might be wrong). If Delph is LB back up it leaves 6 players ahead of him for the midfield spots (and possibly stones if he's not at the back) with Dave getting reduced minutes, Kev with no pre season, Foden young and injury prone, Gundogan injury prone, Bernardo and Ferna who went to the world cup and is 33.

Even then arguably if we play 3-5-2 Zin could be second line to Mendy.

Pep has already trusted him in huge games I just don't know what there is to suggest he won't get used at all this season.

When did Douglas Luiz become world class? Zinchenko played more minutes than Luiz last season (almost double) that too in our team and in a tougher league

We wouldn't be asking work permit for Douglas Luiz if Zinchenko was ahead of him. Would be pointless in that case.
