But i thought Smalling was the best CB in the world according to them and the future England defence is Smalling and Jones. Lets not forget they are the 3rd highest spenders already in this window plus have the highest wages, its not as if they have a team full of 100,000 players is it.
They are now desperate, moving onto 5th, 6th choice and onwards when they kerp getting turned down.

The subtext to that is "the team is shit, I am a genius for finishing second".

He may not be wrong.
