Delph was different. Many of us on here saw his potential at LB before Pep even tried him there.

Zinchenko is not an LB. Offers nothing going forward and is not a good defender. He is good in keeping possession but it’s not enough. Mendy first choice, Delph second and Zinchenko/Danilo 3rd. Mendy is the attacking LB, Delph is the defensively solid LB and Zin is niether.

Shocking decision by him to stay. He’s even behind Foden in the long line to play central midfield and many fear for Phil’s playing time. I understand the ambition to stay but sometimes you have to be realistic, he is still young, go to Wolves and prove yourself, and after a season or two, he may be bought back or get a move to another big club.

Offering nothing going forward is absolutely not a criticism that could be levelled at Zin. He has superb movement and technique and is highly skilled at finding runners with excellent passing ability.

Luiz should have been sent out on loan again tbh. Not good enough to warrant to be a squad member. Hope to be proven wrong though.

We wouldn't be asking work permit for Douglas Luiz if Zinchenko was ahead of him. Would be pointless in that case.
But has he shown anything that will make us assume he is brilliant and can cover for Fernandinho? Cause as far as I have watched him he is nothing special

Can remember him putting in one cross maybe. He goes down the by line then passes it back almost every time. Or playing passes around in a triangle with little effect.

Mendy offers much much more in attack it’s night and day. Delph is superior defensively and little gets passed him. I remember a great assist from Delph in one of the last games of the season as well. He also sometimes scores. Danilo is great in the final third and defensively solid. Walker is an absolute beast defensively. Everyone offers something in attack, defense or a little bit of both. Zinchenko offers none of this which is why he struggles to make the bench when everyone is fit.

Well I guess he has considering Pep want him part of the squad by going through the trouble for getting work permit.

We watch a different game then. He's just not a left back but has done really well for us, playing in an unnatural position.

if the club have agreed a sale, they must feel he not going to get many chances here. He's at a point in his career where the only way he'll improve is with game time....sticking around on the bench seems the easy option to me...Prove yourself playing week in, week out and maybe with a buy-back, he comes back in a couple of years....

Think pep knows more about him than u pal.. he looked quality in pre season so he will be given a chance In the 1st team if he is granted his permit peps words

He’s a top quality player don’t know what player u have been watching my mate. He’s good enough to come into our squad now for sure might just need time to settle and get used to our style but he’s definitely one for the future hopefully permit is granted

Not read the full thread so sorry if i repeat others point.

Maybe, he feels he just wants to train and learn under Pep. It must be such a comedown moving on from being taught by him for anyone.

Feel sorry for the lad, but agree that I can't see a future for him as a regular in this City side or in the future

Good Luck Mini Kev - Wolves isn't the worst place to go

He's not "deadwood", close to it though, but having failed to shift players for so long to now getting a great return on someone deemed surplus to requirements only for them to decide they prefer the bench is frustrating.

Footballing reasons??

Sorry but even near the end of last season without Mendy fully fit he went about 7 weeks without even making the bench.

Now Mendy is fit. He is 3rd choice LB maybe 4th, and something like 7th choice midfield.

He won’t be making the squad in any PL or CL match unless we have 3 players injured. He may make bench in the league cup or FA cup.

Wouldn’t call that staying for footballing reasons. Quite the opposite actually.

Well I doubt he is staying for money, he wont be on a huge amount at City and you would expect that any offer from Wolves dwarfs his current salary. He clearly has confidence in his own ability and wants to stay and fight for his place. That is footballing reasons. Granted, he might be a little delusional but that is something else entirely.

Yep hope I am proven wrong but I just don't see how he can make that jump. Maffeo was the one who shone at Girona, not Luiz who I felt struggled. Maybe Pep can really get that potential he showed in Brazil out of him. Personally I felt he was pretty average in pre season...

Strange one this, if City really wanted the £16m they'd be pushing him towards the move but seems we're not really bothered?

Did he play DM in preseason or not?

Simon Stone with his finger on the pulse as usual.....

Manchester City defender Oleksandr Zinchenko has turned down a move to Wolves.

With Benjamin Mendy fit again after knee surgery, 21-year-old Zinchenko’s route to the first-team is blocked.
