If I've understood it correctly, if Benfica beat Fenerbache tonight Liverpool will end up in pot 3. Benfica lead 1-0 from the first leg.

Not quite. Benfica have a higher coefficient than Liverpool so if they reach the group stage Liverpool will be in pot 3. However, we're only at the 3rd qualifying round so Benfica will have to get through two rounds. Just a pity Basel got knocked out in the last round as they also have a higher coefficient than Liverpool. "European Roaylty" are only 22nd in UEFA's coefficient table.
