This Cesspit of a City

Put it into a political thread, this is discuss the shithole itself not who’s fault it is.

It’s not much different to any other major city in all honesty. Good parts, bad parts, great people, scallys.

It is what it is and I love it.

My fucking home.
Good for you inchy. Far too many people slag their own towns off. And therein lies part of the problem. If you have no pride in your town no wonder they turn into cesspits.

But then that maybe because I’m a complete ****.
350k profit, that's a nice addition to your pension pot, there are many places you could move to and buy a really nice property for circa 200k but it's not always as easy as that due to family and friends, if you have had enough of the Smoke it's a no brainer.

We’ve tried moving out, twice. Essex and Buckinghamshire. Lasted 12 months both times. Felt like I’d lost a limb. May feel different when I’m older/retired.

I'm the same pal, (not the equity though!), family including elderly parents to look and a good circle of friends, not easy to move, losing a limb is how I would feel also.

Margaret Thatcher even admitted herself that Tony Blair was her greatest achievement " we made our enemies think like us ".

We haven't seen a real Labour Government since before she came into power and now our country has pretty much sold every industry it ever had the NHS and schools are crumbling, bankers can bankrupt us and get rewarded for doing so.

Even the moral values have broken down.

That doesn’t tell me how Jeremy Corbyn will fix Manchester.

Corbyn, May or whoever is in charge of this country can’t ‘fix’ Manchester. The people who live here have to be the ones who do it, not that I actually think it needs fixing. We all should have a little more pride in our own neighbourhood, keep outside our front doors clean and tidy. Don’t think it’s too much to expect of each of us. That should also apply to businesses, if they can’t do it they should be charged if councils have to do it for them.

They’ll be less money full fucking stop if Corbyn got into power. Thankfully it’ll never be the case.
Not a chance.

He'd be PM now remember if the Blairites in his own party hadn't sabotaged the election for him.

People that say Manchester is a cesspit of a city have lead a sheltered life.

There are many shithole places far worse than Manchester in the world

I can't honestly think of a shanty town in Manchester. 10 people crowded into a corrugated tin hut with no access to water or electricity with thousands of neighbors living in the same conditions?

It's laughable. Manchester may have it's problems, but for fucks sake, get out there, travel a bit, and see how millions live, many of them on nothing more than a couple of quid a week to feed themselves and their families.

We live in a prosperous part of the world.

Don't kid yourself this is a shithole, because it isn't.

You're describing the third world, Manchester is a major city in the U.K. and Europe.

There are many cities in North America and Europe that are far worse than Manchester (or other U.K. cities) - and there are many cities that are not blessed with top class sports on their doorstep or a thriving music/arts scene like Manchester is.

If you looked for them you'd find plenty of illegal HMO's in and around mcr, with rooms full of mattresses on the floors and occupants living in squalid, unsanitary conditions.

Not to mention all the 'legit' rental properties where tenants are having to endure substandard accommodation living in damp, mouldy properties.

True, but as far as I am aware I don’t think we have anywhere that you could truly define as a slum. Unlike the majority of French cities... check out some of the hell holes in Montpellier, Lyon, Marseille and Paris.

Whilst we might not have whole areas that can be defined as slums we have plenty of individual properties that can be classed as in slum condition and have just as substandard living conditions as the areas you mention.

It’s pissing it down. Like being under a tropical waterfall.

Heaven on earth today.

Do those people pay £1500 a year council tax, under the supposed guise that they are paying for certain services to be carried out?

I suspect they would make £1500 stretch a very long time.

Manchester is a disgrace to the eye.

I really hate to use this phrase, but it’s all relative. I would’ve thought that was quite obvious. If I say I’m poor I’m obviously saying it in comparison to people in the Uk earning £100k and not Mboku the street sweeper in Mombasa
