Sterling’s contract - three year extension confirmed

Sterling missed 12 from 21 Big Chances from open play in the league last season
Jesus missed 13 from 23
Aguero missed 13 from 21

Salah missed 23 from 39
Kane missed 18 from 31
Not only that, he had the fifth best shot conversion rate in the PL last season, fractionally behind Vardy, Rooney and Jesus and a couple of percentage points behind Salah. It’s lazy at best and discriminatory at worst, to presume he misses all the time although, for some reason, I’m as guilty as everyone else sometimes! From last season, I remember the Southampton goal first and then it’s a toss up between the goal against Bournemouth or the misses against the rags or Burnley, and I don’t really remember Aguero or Jesus misses from last season either. It’s all a bit odd when it comes to Raheem. I also know that I very much would like him to stay at City!

So, this Sterling thread?

In four pages he had gone from being a top player to a worldy.

The truth is perhaps somewhere in between.

I found it fascinating in the documentary how he had the balls to approach Pep after the Burnley miss to insist he cost us the victory.

And Pep feeling Sterling was also a big enough boy to be told he was subbed because of it.

There was a real admiration when Pep recounted this to Arteta.

Is this getting done then? hate the place being so divided over one of our best players

No...

A footballer is like water and finds his level. Sterling has found his , playing as a regular in the best team ever seen in England.
At least we have a top level coach who recognizes that, even if Hoddle, the Sun and some faraway fans do not.
Haha! “Faraway fans”....funny stuff!

Maybe, just maybe, a few people aren’t blinded by their bias and see things you appear incapable of seeing.

Better technical talent? Bernardo or Sterling?
Better technical talent? Sané or Sterling?
Better technical talent? Jesus or Sterling?
Better technical talent? Mahrez or Sterling?

That’s O for 4 for Raheem against his teammates for a position in a team of the most technically talented young midfield/forwards in the squad.

And yet he is the one scoring the goals that matter.

He was technically better than Silva & Mahrez at weekend imo.
One swallow does not a summer make!

Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn every now and then!

Should I go on?

I am not saying he doesn’t have abilities, but I am saying he is technically lacking when stacked against the players his agent appears to think he should paid like. He is STILL a work in progress, IMHO.

What does better technical talent mean?

Not sure why there is debate. He scores important goals in increasing numbers. He terrifies defenders who's only recourse is to foul him (how many fouls were awarded as a direct result of Raheem on Saturday). His movement is very good indeed. He is not perfect but in terms of effectiveness and contribution to team he is in top 4 players easily.

Scores on the doors my friend,i don't why you feel the need to play the youngsters off against each other, they offer different things, mahrez is older and not producing anything yet
My sole derogatory remark about Sterling has been his lack of technical ability...ball control, finishing, kinesthetic sense...not that he has scored one of five attempts on a regular basis, usually from inside the 6 yard box, and occasionally from a bit further out.

Last season, he scored a basketful, to be certain, but how many did he miss? Is there another player in the country who EVERYONE thinks will not score on a one on one breakaway against the keeper? Sterling is looking for the type of contract that others have earned by their years of consistent, world class, performances. I don’t think he has done that. Rather, he had the season of his life in a team that laid on AT LEAST FOUR TIMES the goal scoring chances he actually put away, and broke team records that may never be bettered. In short, he had a good season.

I don’t think that warrants the type of contract City’s top, top players currently enjoy, mostly in the twilight of their careers.

The debate is whether he is a player who should be earning KDB type money in a new 5+ year contract after ONLY ONE good season, which occurred while playing in the best team ever seen in the Premier League (statistically)?

I’m not saying he should be dropped. I AM saying he is not the kind of player you put in the spine of your team and build around. He is not the most technically gifted player in the squad by a wide margin. Anyone who can’t see is, frankly, not worth debating any further.

You cannot judge what a player brings as a whole to just one subjective opinion of a skill.

Better technical talent? Bernardo or Sterling? - Who would Pep pick to play on the left wing among the two - Sterling
Better technical talent? Sané or Sterling? - Who would Pep pick to play on the right wing among the two - Sterling
Better technical talent? Jesus or Sterling? - Who would Pep pick to play on any wing among the two - Sterling
Better technical talent? Mahrez or Sterling? - Who would Pep pick to play on the left wing or center among the two - Sterling

The versatility and skills that Sterling brings along with goals he scores makes him get on team sheet more often that maybe more technically gifted.
