City Fans Leaving Early/Empty seats

Include group game tickets with your season card would be the dream, wishful thinking that they implement something like that however.

If the club wants to fill the ground for UCL games, they should automatically include tickets when you buy a season ticket WITHOUT INCREASING THE COST OF A SEASON TICKET. That would be a nice gesture.

If they automatically included it in season tickets and charged extra I'd be 100% against it. If they want more fans coming to these games they should use a carrot, not a stick!

Wasn't having a pop mate. ;-)

They have.

But a big factor is CL games are midweek, so familes with Kids don't bother.

As other's have stated, bolt CL matches on to season tickets, with a cheaper and set price for each round, give fans extra loyalty points, decreasing for each round, more for the group stages, guarantee a QF and SF home ticket, but give the fans and opt out option.
I bet that would put a good few 1000 on the crowd.

I know you weren't mate ;)

Yeah, there seems to be this ongoing issue where midweek games can seriously affect the attendance. If CL games were played on a weekend, we wouldn't even be having this discussion.

That's a decent suggestion - it's purely optional but would definitely get more bums on seats. Way too sensible for the club to consider though!

Seriously Marv, what can you realistically do about it? Demand that those fans who didn't go last night attend in future? Sure, it would be nice if we had sell out crowds for every single CL game but we don't yet have a big enough support base for that, and the club doesn't force 40-odd thousand season ticket holders to buy tickets for CL games unlike a certain other club just down the road. Our hardcore fanbase is no less fickle than pretty much every other club. Don't be fooled by the bullshit spouted by armchair fans on Twitter. There are always going to be match-going fans at every club who decide to give certain games a miss and those who go to every game. I know a fair few match-going United fans - good lads who have put the hard yards in down the years like you and me - who pick and choose their games so they're no different to us lot.
Utd fans are in a different position. Their Season ticket holders have to buy Champions league (and FA Cup) tickets as part of their agreement.

Their support is a legacy of a previous era in many ways.

we need to have a discussion amongst fans about priorities. Club perhaps needs to have a drive to increase membership of CL scheme.

I took my nephew tonight, the atmosphere was shit and the game was shit.

I asked all of the lads who I usually go to the game with and none of them could be arsed.

I’m not having the cost / traffic / time with family thing, because I guarantee every single person on here would find the money, suffer the traffic and sacrifice the time with their families if it was a derby or a league game, or a semi final against Barca or whatever.

What the problem is, is apathy. People just aren’t arsed. They’d rather play Facebook or watch it at home and text their mates.

Liverpool, United and other clubs all have their fair share of fans who aren’t too well off. They also have family commitments, busy lives, tough jobs etc. But they all turn up for the CL, exactly the same as they would for a league game.

Our fans don’t face any extra burden than fans of those other clubs face. The only difference is, our fans simply aren’t arsed about the CL and their fans are.
Good post. Working away has meant i could not attend midweek games. Now I'm not working away I can go.
I went because i could be bothered. Too many can't be bothered, their choice
I haven't got a voice this morning because I was yelling so loudly to counteract the fact that I was surrounded by Lyon fans and 'tourists'!! I asked the two guys sitting next to me if they were Lyon fans after they applauded (surreptitiously) the first goal. Non, non he said I said come on City................. I said I'm not daft, that wasn't what you were saying. If I'd thought quickly enough I should have said, if that was what you were saying then I was saying Vive la France!! When we scored they sat there until I glared at them and then rather reluctantly got up and very sheepishly clapped!! The row across there was a guy who was almost ejected by a steward and in the row behind it was obvious they weren't City supporters. So I shouted louder and lost my voice!!

p.s. I felt the atmosphere and the singing from the SS was better last night. Was that just my imagination, there were a few renditions of Blue Moon, City best team, We are City, Dzeko song etc.
I was in 115 last night and the atmosphere was good. Pity it's not in most other sections.

We should get Colin who has just been elected to bring this attendance issue up with the club. Give discounted CL tickets to Seasoncard holders is maybe an option.

Or even a seperate champions league scheme or something like that

Very dishonest for Man Utd fans to criticise City's Champions League crowds.

This is in their terms and conditions:

"Season Ticket Holders are automatically allocated and required to buy tickets for home cup matches."

They can opt out of League Cup and europa League. Not the Champions League and the FA Cup.

That is the simple reason why Man Utd sell out their Champions League games. Their fans are forced to go. They would say it's a privilege.

Should City do the same? The voluntary CL scheme is a solution only most now have opted out. We need them to opt back in. Perhaps the club should consider re-opening it and appealing for seasoncard holders to join it perhaps offering some incentive

Surely the fact that most have opted out says it all? Most of our core fanbase don't care about the Champs League, it isn't shameful or embarassing, it's just fact mate.

The other thing that a few have mentioned about including the group stage games in the price of season ticket is all well and good but it wouldn't in my case mean anyone used the seat as I still wouldn't go, I would however try and give it away to someone.

It's like saying because I have a membership at a running club I must attend every race/event. I don't, I just go when I want to and certain events I find better than others. Same principle.

They are already massively discounted. You can get 3 for £52.50.

Question to you all.

How many of you wouldn't renew your season ticket if the CL matches were compulsary, and you were guaranteed CL match incentives(see above) and cheaper LC and FA Cup tickets.

@jrb put forward a very good suggestion a few posts up. I think this would definitely help. Trouble is, I have my suspicions that the club wouldn't want to offer a CL group stage package at the time of season ticket renewals because if they did it for a cheap price and then we drew a marquee team in the group stage draw a couple of months later that would guarantee a sell out, they'd see it as missing out on loads of extra revenue. They used to cap domestic cup ticket prices at something like £15 for games prior to the quarter finals for those signed up to the relevant cup schemes and then one year we drew United in the 3rd round!

Our crowds for CL games aren't always as bad as some think though - remember that when we played Basel at home last season in what was effectively a dead rubber match, we had a higher attendance than Liverpool did for their dead rubber home match against Porto in the same round.

The point was Utd fans would have opted out too had they had the choice. They are in a unique situation where they thousands of season ticket holders don't want to give up their season tickets. City couldn't introduce such a scheme now but it sustains Utd CL crowds.

It was an easy point to understand.

You're right, that's what I did. To be honest though, I went partly out of a sense of duty rather than because I love these games. I don't know if I'm representative of other season ticket holders but I just don't get the same buzz for a CL game as a premier league game. I even enjoy FA cup games more. It's difficult to put your finger on it but I just don't feel it for the champions league. Will there come a point when something "clicks"? Who knows.

I didn't say it wasn't easy to understand did I?

It's morally shite of Utd to do and would be if City did the same.

If prices went up, i'd get rid personally. I'm at my 'limit' of what I want to pay for my seasoncard, I will do cup games on an ad-hoc if prices are decent and I can get a few extra to take the family.

Sneaking an extra £15 a season onto price of seasoncard for a tin and a scarf that I stick in a charity bag just pisses me off tbh.

CL group games are not all exciting but you have to win them to play Liverpool in the CL Q/Finals.

Fans feel an obligation to support the club and be there at home games. Doesn't mean we will enjoy and anticipate all the games with equal measure. Part of the joy of winning the league against QPR was because we had done the time.

If the club did this, it would annoy me and I would probably register my objection by not renewing. Even though it would probably save me money. Daft, I know but that's how I would feel.
