I can see why you think that, but I don't think he would have wanted his legacy trashed to this extent. In an ideal world, I think he would have picked a long period of top four finishes, but nothing more. That they have fallen so far, and so fast, does not reflect well upon him.

I wonder what was said (and unsaid) between the two parties around that time. Ferguson’s acquiescence must have contained some form of trade-off, as I reckon he was bang to rights.
