The Tory party is dying, figuratively and literally and has little appeal to young voters. The old maxims no longer apply, youthful radicalism dulls to bourgeois conformity as one gets older and more invested, but that model is busted, permanently. And the Tories and New Labour busted it, ladders pulled up, wealth and power concentrated in fewer hands, the post war consensus dead. May's one nation Toryism sounds appealing but is backed up with nothing but rhetoric, there is a reason why we are where we are and to change this for the better there needs to be real change, the Tories will never change the power balance in society, never, all they stand for is more and more of the same.

Its a desperate last ditch attempt to garner support - a little bit unnecessarily unless she intends going to the polls again. I mean if she is trying to appeal to Brexit supporting Labour voters on the subject of Brexit she surely has their backing on that topic anyway.

She's taking her one nation Toryism out for a spin, why not? She's got nothing to lose, it's not inconceivable that an election might well happen despite her best efforts, it's not inconceivable she might even take the Tories in to it, given the shambles on the right of her party, these are uncertain times.

She might be flirting with blairite MPs, she'd certainly love a high profile defection but maybe she thinks she has some breathing space to make mischief, you know left wing bogyman, anti-Semitism, unpatriotic, these are handy switches to flick in the interim between one major fuckup and the next.

It's not a purity test to expect a professed Labour Party member to believe in something approximating the core values of the party, broad church or no broad church. Anyone who posts nothing but criticism of the party and warm fuzzy endorsements of Tory policies and values is clearly unhappy, not because he's hounded by purists, but because he's living a lie.

Make a little step to one nation Toryism, I mean it, post after post it's what you want, it's the direct appeal May is making, this is you....

She argues that in an era in which traditional political allegiances count for less, the Tories now have a responsibility “on our shoulders” to offer a home to millions of former Labour voters who are unhappy with the party’s move left under Jeremy Corbyn.

Yes you are missing that the labour party values and the conservative and unionist party values are incompatable yet she is reaching out in desperation as she is scared Labour can actually win an election next time round.
